How are you dealing with lockdown hair

My hair is awful. I already feel rubbish as it is (think I have PND) I look terrible.
Please can anyone give me some ideas of what to do with my hair. There is no shape and my fringe has grown so long.

Any ideas welcome, thank you x

Ponytail??

I'm coping by growing mine out. I used to have a pixie cut, but I cannot cope with the maintenance when hairdressers keep closing 🤷‍♀️.

Tbh, a lot of people have ropey hair at the moment, so you aren't alone! I had actually been planning to grow mine our first ages, but the awful in between stage had me running back to the salon! This time, I had no choice and just had to sit it out and it wasn't so bad. So in a way, it's a good thing.

Daisy829 · 14/02/2021 18:07

Home hair dye kits & headbands in a bid to cover the grey. It comes back so quickly though.

BallsToYouSue · 14/02/2021 18:07

Have you spoken to anyone IRL re pnd btw?

Don't cut your own hair / fringe if you can help it.

AuntieMarys · 14/02/2021 18:08

I trim my fringe very carefully and use Josh Woods root cover

Heartbeats0708 · 14/02/2021 18:09

Pretty much what @Daisy829 said. Also found a couple of really straightforward styles to mix it up a bit from the usual ponytail/messy bun and make it seem as though I've made some effort.

PurpleDaisies · 14/02/2021 18:10

I treated myself to some olaplex. That’s really helped the condition of mine. Even if it looks a bit dodgy it feels very nice and is super shiny.

Tilpop · 14/02/2021 18:16

@BallsToYouSue yes thank you for asking I'm currently waiting on counciling services x

Mines awful too. My fringe is past my nose and my roots are showing badly (highlights).

I'm dealing with it with a hairband and pretending I have a balayage rather than growing out highlights.Grin

Changi · 14/02/2021 18:25

Mine hadn't been cut since November 2019 and I snapped on Friday. I cut it myself.

It's got its bounce back and actually looks OK.

Goldenphoenix · 14/02/2021 18:28

Mine is so long and straggly. Have been watching videos on YouTube and am so tempted to trim it myself! @Changi did you use a particular method?

slooowdaysinlockdown · 14/02/2021 18:29

Cut your fringe! It's not difficult and makes such a difference- google point cutting. You need sharp scissors though

Changi · 14/02/2021 18:35

changi did you use a particular method?

I divided it into a centre parting, grabbed a bunch at the top on the left side and chopped four inches off the end. Then I grabbed a bunch a bit further down and did the same, and so on. Then I repeated on the other side.

OatcakeCravings · 14/02/2021 18:36

I’m coping by putting it in a ponytail and trying not to look at it in the mirror! I used to be vain, not anymore!!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 14/02/2021 18:37

My hair looks like I'm 10 years post nuclear war when the majority of the worlds population has been wiped out and I've been living off scavaging and hiding in empty fox burrows during the night.

EternalOptimist7 · 14/02/2021 18:41

I definitely cope by putting mine up, although actually it’s not as bad as the first lockdown. My worst problem is my eyebrows. So bushy! I always get them waxed & am too cowardly to pluck them!

Carouselfish · 14/02/2021 18:44

I went blonde in lockdown. Did it in stages as could get away with being orange inbetween as unseen. Now I just keep it in a plait, waiting for a trim, bleach and tone the roots every so often.

BakewellGin1 · 14/02/2021 18:55

Coping by just sticking it on top of my head and ignoring it ha ha
Realistically... I can box dye my own and will (when I can be bothered, at the moment I'm just a bit miserable and can't bring myself to do it) then it would just need a professional job and a cut when they open.

AngryAngel · 14/02/2021 18:57

It's the season for bobble hats! Thank goodness. I'm just avoiding mirrors indoors. Hope you get your PND sorted. x

14February2021 · 14/02/2021 18:59

I’ve cut mine into a short bob and embraced my whiteness, I was going for the Makepeace (as in Dempsey & Makepeace) look but I’m looking more like Twiki from Buck Rogers - such is life......

lightand · 14/02/2021 19:05

I do cut my own fringe if necessary.
I use nail scissors, and cut it very carefully, a little bit at a time. It doesnt take that long to do. And I am very far from being a hairdresser!

In desperation[felt like a sheep needing shearing], I asked someone living with me, to thin out my hair[I have think hair but lots of it]. I can feel it is done, but it was thinned at the back. Not at all convinced a good job was done! But never mind. I feel a little lighter. And hair grows.
Not at all sure what my hairdresser will make of it at the next[hopefully soon] appointment! Shock Grin

Pbbananabagel · 14/02/2021 19:17

Literally just cut 4 inches off mine this afternoon after not having it cut since 2019.

Used the ‘unicorn’ method (google/YouTube this) and sharp scissors- worked a treat and now my messy bun looks polished again instead of pathetic.

BallsToYouSue · 14/02/2021 19:19
@BallsToYouSue yes thank you for asking I'm currently waiting on counciling services x
Hope they sort the sessions for you soon X

DrinkSnackRepeat · 14/02/2021 19:53

Don't stress too much, we are all stuck indoors. Do things now to improve the condition.

I am doing a lot of exercise at the moment and so it is permanently in a ponytail. I am doing some treatments to improve the condition but I'll worry about it when the lockdown is lofted and get in there with a cut and colour.

Do nice things for yourself OP.

Beaniecats · 14/02/2021 19:56

I had to diy cut looking awful but it's just so thick and unmanageable if left

Mellonsprite · 14/02/2021 19:57

Today I have trimmed my fringe nothing drastic - just an inch, dyed my hair a mid brown and tinted and plucked my own eyebrows. My goodness, I feel so much better.
I’m not touching the layers or length as I think that is beyond my capabilities and I don’t want to mess those up!
