Spring wedding guest dress with nursing access

I'm posting way in advance, but I'm both excited and aware that I might need to prepare myself for not being able to find what I want...

I'll (hopefully) be attending a wedding in early April 2022 and need to find a dress that I can breastfeed in. I don't want a '2 in 1' maternity/nursing occasion dress as went back to (near) normal very fast after my last pregnancy and the extra material looks odd.

Colours: Cool tones (blue/pink/purple/etc), bridesmaids are in dusky pinks or lilacs so probably best to avoid those colours unless patterned.

Style: I like classics, nothing too "fashion forward". Steer away from body con. The majority of my dresses are A line/fit n flare/shift. Knee length/midi length preferred. I'm size 8-10 and reasonably "in proportion". Floral/lace/feminine fabrics would be lovely. I'll need sleeves or something to keep me warm as it'll be very early April and a windy location!

All ideas welcome!

A long time ago, in similar circs, I wore this. Very heavy duty zip down the front Wink There's a 10 on eBay atm.

What about a 40's style shirt dress with sleeves?

I've got a wedding early September so similar weather I imagine. I'll be breastfeeding a 5 month old. I think I've decided I need to get a posh skirt and top combo. In my head it'll be an a-line skirt and a nice blouse. My boobs are too big for just flopping one out and all the nursing specific dresses are either too casual or dual up with maternity and as you say I don't want to look pregnant!

I have a dress a bit like this that I wore to two weddings when BF -

Wrap dress. I had big boobs when I was nursing but honestly, nobody gives a about it unless you're brazenly flapping about and making a scene of it Grin

That is lush! I love the colour.
Poppins2016 · 14/02/2021 19:28

I rather like that bombshell dress!

I've also found this wrap dress which is slightly more 'out there' than my usual style, but I absolutely love the colours and I think it would flatter a post partum body (should I not go back to normal like before)! www.notonthehighstreet.com/nancymac/product/jewel-garden-sequin-lace-wrap-dress?utm_source=rtbhouse&utm_medium=display&utm_campaign=rtbhouse-retargeting&utm_keyword=860713

I've ruled out a skirt and top as they never sit quite right on me and I wouldn't feel particularly elegant.

Please keep the suggestions coming! Smile

I've found a link for the actual dress I have, except mine is green like the bombshell one. I really love it as it's very flattering and comfortable.

Poppins2016 · 14/02/2021 20:54

@Throughabushbackwards thank you! The Bordeaux colour is also gorgeous. Does the material have some stretch?

OP posts:
Throughabushbackwards · 14/02/2021 23:48

Yes, but it's a firm kind of stretch, the fabric is quite heavy which gives a nice swoosh to the skirt.

DalryPlace · 15/02/2021 09:47

The Ted Baker dress is much more Spring like. The velvet dresses strike me as winter/Christmas dresses.

DalryPlace · 15/02/2021 09:59

Or a jumpsuit.

This is really elegant and practical...no skirt blowing up in the wind!

@DalryPlace

I had wondered whether velvet might look too heavy for a spring wedding...

I like the Ted Baker dress but for me personally it's more of a day time look (I live in dresses).

I quite like the Nancy Mac jumpsuits. Might have to order and try...

The Fenn Wright Manson dress is rather pretty. Sleeves are a plus as it'll probably be a bit chilly!
