Today's little bit of sunshine has me excited for Spring and Summer!

I need a new SPF50 for this year as I've been using prescription RetinA and don't want to undo the great results.

Please tell me which SPF50 face cream/lotion you'd recommend - I'm very pale and some make me look a bit ghostly so it needs to absorb well and be ok under makeup (sometimes, not every day)

Thanks! Roll on Spring ☀️🌤☀️

I didn't get on with heliocare AT ALL.

Excuse the awful g link but I like Roche posay

I really like Frezyderm. I use it over moisturiser, but then my skin is very dry. The Frezyderm is lovely - clear, light weightless consistency, and no white 'cast' on your skin afterwards.

TableNiner · 12/02/2021 09:01

I like this one

Divebar2021 · 12/02/2021 09:05

I like the Heliocare fluid. It’s very matt and a good base for foundation. It’s not always moisturising enough for my older skin though so I sometimes use a Bobbi Brown product underneath.

RockaLock · 12/02/2021 09:52

I am very very wary of using anything that isn't a "proper" sun cream (I have a large patch of pigmentation that is proving very stubborn to shift, after a short spell using the much-praised Biore).

I am currently using Ultrasun face fluid spf50. It's a bit lighter feeling than their regular facial spf50. I'm also very pale, and don't notice it leaving me any whiter-looking.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 12/02/2021 10:04

Frezyderm like PP. I use over moisturiser too.

Letsskidaddle · 12/02/2021 10:06

Wow, thanks for all the replies, lots to look at and maybe try (if not too much ££)

Can't wait for some warmer weather - this has felt like the longest winter ever!

I’m currently using cosrx aloe soothing sun cream. Really like it, no white cast and soaks well (I have combo skin). Apparently not waterproof though. Not so much of an issue now though

In future should I ever go on holiday then I’m considering purchasing SKIN AQUA UV Super Moisture Milk Sunscreen

trumpisaflump · 12/02/2021 14:59

This one is my holy grail. No shine or white cast and feels weightless under my make up. Asian SPF is awesome

Recommend me a SPF 50 face cream please!

Heliocare (the tinted one) is the worst I’ve tried for a long time, orange and greasy, also not impressed at all with LRP, I have combination skin and need something quite drying.

Current best to date is Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF50, if you have combination or oily skin it’s brilliant, you do need to put it on carefully to avoid leaving white marks but that’s probably true with a lot of high spf creams. Also, if you have dry skin it might not be moisturising enough.

ChloeDecker · 12/02/2021 15:47

I also use Frezyderm but pretty much only in the summer (great with perspiring skin!) but every other season, I only use the Paulas Choice Resist Anti Ageing Moisturiser Fluid SPF 50. It’s a broad spectrum watery fluid that sinks gorgeously in to my skin even with the recommended 1/3 teaspoon amount and is the only product that doesn’t give me spots.
I started off with a trial size from the website and loved it.
On my third tube.
If you prefer thicker consistencies or an SPF 30, there are other versions at Paulas Choice if your budget allows.

Recommend me a SPF 50 face cream please!

I’d also suggest doing some research before choosing an Asian brand like biore, I know they have a lot of fans but I believe I’ve read several times that they’re not overly effective, can’t remember the reasons why, I’m no scientist, just to put it out there as if you’re using retinol it’s particularly important to get proper coverage.

I use the Vichy Soliel one, but find it can still run into my eyes if it's a hot & sweaty day.
Tried the La Roche Posay one & hated it. Made my skin really dry & itchy.
Am looking to try something new this year - might go for the Frezyderm or Eucrin one.
I find SPF so difficult - it's taken years of trial & error to get a decent body SPF for me (use Hawaiian Tropic SPF 50) as so many others left white marks, clumped in creases, left me shiny & sticky - but found it's too harsh for my face.

FreekStar · 12/02/2021 17:45

I second Paulas Choice moisturisers- personally I prefer spy 30 but I know they have some that are spf50

Icenii · 12/02/2021 17:47

Just bought the Avene facial sunscreen with a tint in it. Looked good but I can feel it. I feel the same about all BB, CC sunscreen.

This is my absolute favourite, I've used it for years.

A slight white cast but only until it sinks in...Feels silky going on and has never upset by super sensitive, dehydrated and acne prone skin.

When you order direct from Clarins as well you tend to get freebies.

TaraR2020 · 12/02/2021 17:51

Forgot to mention its also v light to wear

1990s · 12/02/2021 17:53

Was looking around for a sunscreen today and was going to go for Heliocare gel, but now thinking Frezyderm instead...

Get spots easily from it, have been on Biore Watery Essence that I bought in Japan for a while, but nervous to buy online in terms of getting something not genuine

bigdecisionstomake · 12/02/2021 17:55

I usually use Nivea Visage SPF50 but find it a little greasy so have just treated myself to Murad City Skin Age Defense. It is a mineral sunscreen with really good ++++ UVA protection and also has vitamin C. I have been using it for around 10 days now and am really pleased with it. No white cast, stingy eyes, breakouts or pilling under make up. It takes a few minutes to absorb but I can put primer and BB cream on top within around 4-5 minutes without any problems.

Overall I've been quite impressed with it but will see how long the bottle lasts before deciding if I need to go back to the substantially cheaper Nivea one.

For previous posters saying they had read not so good things about some of the Korean brands, it is worth checking the UVA ratings as some are not so good and if you are using Retinol you really need one with at least 4 stars (or ++++).

MackenCheese · 12/02/2021 17:56

Try Murad. Very good and doesn't leave your face white.

Terrible reviews but I love it! Maybe because I have old dry skin.
