Don't everyone's ankles feel the cold?

Shopping online (obvs) for new jeans and every single style is cropped and pictured with white trainers or a baggier mom jean again worn cropped with ankle boots so quite a bit of ankle exposed. Are real people wearing jeans like this? I'm keen to update my look from skinnies (worn tucked in boots at the moment) but I can't see how when it's so cold!

Not doing the cropped thing. Cold ankles and Hypermobility mean higher chance of sprains. Besides which it just looks like your trousers are too short/small

I wear mine with ankle showing because I like the look and think it suits me.
Unless it's really cold weather, I haven't noticed my ankles getting that cold, no more than my hands or face. If it was cold enough for scarf and gloves though I'd probably skip the bare ankles.

I always think that style is aimed at a particular sort of person (or one who isn’t outdoors for long periods of time!). I could have worn that look in my 20s when I lived in London as I went from warm flat to warm tube to warm office to warm pub with v little walking in between!

Now I live rurally and am out and about a lot with toddler DD it really doesn’t work for me (which is a shame as I actually like the look). It wear something similar in spring/summer but it’s boots all the way in winter for me!

Pigtailsandall · 10/02/2021 13:38

@MindatWork I think you are right. I'm in London and have a much-younger mum friend who told me she's never owned boots. She wear ankle-grazing jeans and trainers year round Shock

Frankinmachine · 10/02/2021 13:39

I wear these type of jeans with my white trainers. But it’s definitely too cold at the moment and so wear them with biker boots or Chelsea boots with warm socks.

MsMarch · 10/02/2021 13:40

No, because the single biggest proof that actually a large chunk of the world's population are actually lizards/aliens is the weirdly large number of people who can wear ankle length trousers with trainers, exposing their ankles in the winter. These people are very clearly not human and should not be trusted.

I feel your pain OP. I have a pair that I wear with ankle boots and quite thick socks so it works for relatively short journeys. But that's it. It's a pity because it is a look I like a lot. But it's summer only for me as a rule unfortunately.

VenusClapTrap · 10/02/2021 13:55

I decided to get with current trends and bought a couple of pairs of mom jeans to replace my skinny jeans. I wore them about three times, realised they just don’t work with boots of any description and are incredibly unflattering to boot (excuse the pun) and have consigned them to the charity shop pile.

Where I live it’s too muddy not to wear wellies this time of year, and ankle gaps and white trainers would just look ridiculous.

PubsClosed · 10/02/2021 14:19

I must be getting old and sensible, because unless it’s considerably warmer weather, I’d never do the bare ankles look and when I see it on others I just think ‘aren’t you freezing with your poor little ankles out in this weather?!’

Unless they’re teenagers. Teens don’t let a little thing like freezing weather stop them from wearing crop tops and bare ankles, and no sensible Mum telling them otherwise will have any effect Grin.

Tights or warm socks until it’s proper Spring, for me, though!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/02/2021 14:19

I have lots of knee-high socks I wear at this time of year with trousers - all mine are cropped. I have colourful stripy socks, and also navy, black, and charcoal pairs - M&S school section is great for more subdued colours.

Frequentflier · 10/02/2021 14:26

So agree. It's not just jeans; all the trousers are ankle grazers. I think they are very unflattering on me. I am tall with long legs, and they look like they have shrunk in the wash.

Shorthairlady · 10/02/2021 14:51

My ankles are ridiculously skinny so are therefore always covered to (a) keep them warm and (b) to counteract my embarrassment. Wink

PussGirl · 10/02/2021 15:14

I personally think cropped trousers look daft on adults.

I don't like a seeing a gap between sock and trouser leg so I wear knee-high socks in the winter & no socks or tiny hidden trainer socks in the summer.

lindyloo57 · 10/02/2021 15:27

At 5ft 3 with short legs 28inch long, I like this look on others, but I can't seem to find the right length for me, am happy to just cut to right length , but never sure where the length should be, I have ruined a couple of pair of jeans as I cut them to short,
