Funeral clothes on a shoestring budget

^ This ^
My Mum died recently. Primark is shut.
I will need suits for DS's (9&15) and a nice dress for me.
I think DH will wear the suit he always wears for funerals.
I need somewhere that sells at primark prices. Not second hand.
Help

Sorry about your mum. Can you get to a supermarket or shop online, George at Asda are very good.

Soontobe60 · 09/02/2021 19:19

Sorry for your loss.
I honestly wouldn’t worry about your DSS wearing suits. they can wear trousers and a shirt. It’s freezing so they’ll need to wear their coats too.

Buntysbosom · 09/02/2021 19:20

So sorry for your loss Flowers
We got our teen a black suit from Asda. Jacket £20 & trousers £10 but he’s quite tall so was in men’s size. They do kids suits but only seem to have navy at the moment.

So sorry about your dm Flowers

Overwhelmed245 · 09/02/2021 19:22

ASOS or boohoo for the 15 year old

HazeyJaneII · 09/02/2021 19:24

Good point about the coat, if the y just wear trousers and shirts.

Have you looked on Amazon...I bought a suit for dd2 there, which was very cheap but surprisingly decent.

BettyBooth · 09/02/2021 19:24

I'd just get the children a black scarf plus gloves if you can run to it.
Sorry for your loss. Flowers

Onlineshopperforever · 09/02/2021 19:25

Sorry about your mum.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with suits for the kids. Smart trousers, shirt and a tie for 15YO would be fine. Look at school uniform sections in supermarkets.

What size are you OP? I have some black dresses I bought and never wore. Long story, but I bought them in preparation for a family member with terminal illness funeral and then decided I couldn't face wearing black. I'd be happy to get shot of the damn things.

Alternista · 09/02/2021 19:26

School uniform trousers for your DSs, and a cheap shirt from a supermarket?

Amazon sell black dresses very cheaply.

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

Pixie2015 · 09/02/2021 19:27

So sorry for your loss.
Could the children wear their school trousers and a white school shirt with a tie?

Oly4 · 09/02/2021 19:29

Agree with just putting the kids in trousers and a jumper with a warm coat over the top. I’m sure your mother wouldn’t mind.
And do you need a dress or could you wear trousers and a top you already own? I wore separates to my mother’s funeral with a slightly patterned scarf.
Sorry for your loss

PheasantPlucker1 · 09/02/2021 19:35

H&M was the only place I managed to find a boys black one.

Sorry for your loss

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 09/02/2021 19:39

All of the grandchildren will be in suits. I don't want mine being the only ones not to be. Ds15 is in men's clothes.
I have just looked at a few places online that have been recommended. Asda, sainsbury's etc. Lots out of stock

Thanks for all your help. I will continue looking at the other suggestions.

Another one saying black school trousers and a white shirt. Both my boys wore these for my mums funeral - their school trousers were grey 🙄. I bought from matalan and asda click and collect. They looked smart but really no one will be bothered.

DianaT1969 · 09/02/2021 19:43

Agree that it isn't necessary to put the boys in suits. School trousers, white shirt and coat over. ASOS or Sainsbury's TU for your dress?
Also, M&S currently have a black belted midi skater dress in 6-16 and 2 lengths for £27.65 in their 30% off sale.

SageRosemary · 09/02/2021 19:48

You could look at hiring suits for the day. Formal Black Tie/Wedding suit hire shops often do funeral attire. Give them a call, maybe they have a click and collect service.

sorryiasked · 09/02/2021 19:53

Matalan
Debenhams sale
Ebay/Facebook - there are loads of brand new suits that people bought for weddings etc this year which are now outgrown/not required.

HenriettaHeffalump · 09/02/2021 19:56

H&M?

NellietheNumpty · 09/02/2021 20:02

I was in Sainsbury's today and they definitely had the items you need. Black mens trousers, black mens jumper, black dress and tights.
Kind thoughts go with you.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 09/02/2021 20:08

Try next (the boys kids section goes up to 16, bit check their sizing) - they also have stuff in the clearance section but it isn't always immediately deliverable. UNIQLO has well priced basics as well.

Froggie456 · 09/02/2021 20:11

Supermarket your best bet for clothes at primark prices. Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s do good ranges. Matalan another option.
