Prescription Retinoid (Tret) from Dermatica or Skin and Me :)

Both do great offers for discount on the first month.

Sundscreen is a must.

Reinventinganna · 09/02/2021 12:31

The vitamin c products from the body shop are really helping my skin.

ZaraW · 09/02/2021 12:45

Green smoothies with coconut water or almond
oat milk etc.

lazylinguist · 09/02/2021 12:47

Mostly genes. I've had phases where I've done loads of exercise and had a good diet and drunk lots of water, and phases where I've not bothered. Phases when I've used expensive skin care and phases when I have used super cheap stuff. My skin didn't really change tbh. I have pale, sallowish skin, quite oily when I was younger, less so now. I just don't have a very nice complexion. The only thing that changes that is make-up!

giletrouge · 09/02/2021 12:51

No alcohol. Now that I'm older I've noticed a single drink makes a massive difference to my skin the next day. Sorry!

HelloThereMeHearties · 09/02/2021 12:55

Have to agree with the no alcohol thing. Since I more or less stopped (nearly a year ago! Shock ) my skin is much better.

WinoLino · 09/02/2021 12:56

@Greenland21 you've had lots of good advice so far but I would say it's about having a great skincare routine. Glowy skin is harder in the winter however.

How do you cleanse your skin? This makes a big difference and I would follow Caroline Hirons' advice and use oil or cream cleanser, NEVER wipes or Micellar water as they dry skin. Coconut oil with a flannel is lovely for first cleanse and then I use a hot cloth cleanser for my 2nd cleanse. Two are not necessary unless you are wearing lots of make up or SPF.

It doesn't have to be genes, I wanted glowy skin a few years back and now have it. I do have a good routine though and don't deviate from this mostly.

Greenland21 · 09/02/2021 13:00

Thank you for all of your tips! To give you a rough idea of my routine which I’ve been doing for a while - Of a morning I wash my face with clean and clear morning energy or something similar, then I used temple spa toning Essenes or a Clinique clarifying liquid, I use temple spa be still settling moisturiser and vitamin c detox skincare brightening eye gel ... but I don’t feel I have bright/glowing/awake skin!! So feel free to tell me where I’m going wrong lol!

OP posts:
WinoLino · 09/02/2021 14:49

Hmm I'm not sure about that cleanser. Caroline Hirons goes on and on about using an oil or cream cleanser and removing with a warm (not hot) flannel. She is a guru and I would always take her advice.

WinoLino · 09/02/2021 14:51

Also you don't have any actives in your routine such as acids. You really need some. Email The Ordinary and tell them you need a routine for glowy skin. It's all cheap as chips and really good. Stick to it for a month and then come back to this thread to tell us how you got on. Good luck!

LordOfTheOnionRings · 09/02/2021 14:54

Sun cream and water

PurpleDaisies · 09/02/2021 14:54

Caroline Hirons is just one person.
Superdrug natural radiant foaming cleanser (I can see Hirons fans gasping in horror at “foaming”) is the best thing I’ve put on my face for years. Oil and cream cleansers bring me out in spots.

doadeer · 09/02/2021 14:56

I have glowing skin. I love love skincare.

I would say:

Good cleanse, exfoliate acid serum (and vit c) and hydrated with moisturiser. Plus a lovely facial oil

I don't wear foundation I use Erborian CC cream which is brilliant!

I drink lots of water, get good sleep, eat fruit and veg

Nohomemadecandles · 09/02/2021 15:30

Personally, I don't rate TO at all. It's sticky and overly complicated. Deconstructing skincare is a fad. It does the exact opposite of what it claims because you end up buying 4539 different bits to use every second Wednesday if the moon is full. (But not if you also use VitC on that day) It takes over your life!

Temple Spa is an MLM.

WinoLino · 09/02/2021 15:37

@PurpleDaisies yes she is "one person" but she is very very good at what she does and experienced in skin care. Not everyone has to agree with her though so Smile

I think if someone is doing something other than oil or cream cleansing and they are getting good results-brilliant, keep doing it, why not? But the OP isn't getting good results which is why I am giving advice.

@Nohomemadecandles Again, if a regime doesn't suit then fine, carry on doing what you are doing. However the skin does need different chemicals to counteract fine lines/dehydration/dry skin (not the same thing) etc etc. TO is good because it's decent but cheap as that's what the owner wanted to achieve.

WinoLino · 09/02/2021 15:38

Also @PurpleDaisies, I love that Superdrug Range and use their hot cloth cleanser

500BusStops · 09/02/2021 16:13

I've started using la roche posay vitamin c serum and that's definitely made a difference. Also wearing less make up, using blotting sheets instead of powder has helped clear my skin.

Can anyone recommend a good gentle acid toner for rosacea prone skin? I tried liquid gold a few years ago and it ruined my skin so have stayed away since then!

ReggieKrait · 09/02/2021 17:16

Pixie Glow tonic (the original) is quite good,
I found it gentle enough. Have you tried it?

I love Caroline Hirons but my skin really, really hates any heavy creamy balm or oil cleanser. It makes me feel greasy and itchy.
I find it weird as everyone else seems to love them and get great results. I use the smallest amount of a minimal-foaming gel cleanser. My skin has to feel clean.

doadeer · 09/02/2021 17:22

Pixi glow tonic or Paula's Choice BHA are both quite mild I think

VinoWitch · 09/02/2021 21:11

I have a glowing skin question. About makeup! I have to use a setting powder for my oily forehead and because I want to set my concealer. This always takes away any glow I have but I don't know what else to do!

(I don't use foundation or tinted moisturiser - just concealer and a matte powder on eyelids, under eyes, forehead, nose and chin.)

timetest · 09/02/2021 22:07

Tret, vitamin c serum, spf 50, a healthy diet with lots of veg and oily fish twice a week.

ppeatfruit · 10/02/2021 08:38

Apart from eating good fresh healthy food (and as I said eating fruit on an empty stomach) also drinking plenty of filtered water. Everyone's skincare\beauty routine will of course be different because we are all different!

I only ever use luke warm flitered and or softened water to splash to wake up then moisturising with almond oil\ or cocoa butter and basil\ or rosemary essential oil (that's good for oily skin it's called oil but it isn't oily .
I don't buy the over the counter stuff ,it's plugged full of additives, petroleum oil ,preservatives etc. (even when expensive).

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/02/2021 14:26

Drink lots of water, cleanse tone moisturise every day, get vitamins and cut down on carbs. And the right foundation - nothing too matte - go for something with light-reflection in it to give you a glow. Hate seeing women with unearthly, matte, 1-tone faces.

Genes play a role too.

Jjjjjj1981 · 10/02/2021 14:32

Supplements, like evening primrose oil, omega oils and biotin, no alcohol, lots of water, good diet.
It really does come from the inside
