Philips Lumea advanced or Braun silk-expert pro 5

So I was about to purchase the Philips Lumea from Boots on offer at £280 currently. But then when I went to buy I noticed the Braun silk-expert pro 5 is also £285 at the moment reduced from a whopping £565 Shock

I’m tempted now to go for the Braun due to the massive reduction and slightly higher reviews but does anyone have a view on which is better. I’d mainly be using it for legs, bikini and underarms which I currently epilate

I would like to know this too. Or even any other ones that people swear by.
Do not have alot of money to spend so would like to make sure I get one that actually works well.

I have had the lumea for a few years. I haven't used it as often as I should have (it's a really boring self care job that does take a while) but even so, my leg hair is so much lighter and finer. I can shave my legs on holiday now and they're good for a couple of days. I used to be a basic gorilla that would have to fully epilate or wax before a holiday or beach day. And the worst thing is that my legs would be covered in the little black dot grow back after a few days.. I wouldn't even get 2 weeks of good legAngry. So it's a huge yes to either product from me. The deciding factor should be which one has the biggest 'window'. This will help you get around your legs faster.

Another quick thing.. your hair and skin type will affect the outcome of using one of these. I have pale skin and dark hair, it worked a treat. I can't say much about other colouring.

Lottie2shoes · 07/02/2021 12:26

@BusinessGoose
That is definitely me too. Pale skin and thick dark hair. Thanks, I think I'll get the Lumia.Smile

I’d suggest keeping your receipt carefully just in case. There has been a recent thread about people getting rashes and folliculitis from Lumea use.

Lottie2shoes · 08/02/2021 00:09

@EvelynBeatrice
Ok, thanks for the advice. Something to look into before I buy.

MrDarcysMa · 08/02/2021 00:26

I've got a Lumea. It's great.

Eesha · 08/02/2021 12:49

@Lottie2shoes, i bought the Braun Beauty Set 9 from Robert Dyas. It has the silk epil 9 plus a facial epilator plus loads of extras and it all cost about 90 pounds. I didn't have the money for a Lumea but this seems brilliant.

NotquitewhatImeant · 08/02/2021 14:24

I have a braun ip, and i love it. Very easy to use, the glide and pulse mode makes it quite quick and it's been great for me. I find the shape very easy to use too - I was put off by the bulk of the lumea

Turnedouttoes · 08/02/2021 14:27

Oohh that’s good to hear about the Braun, I took the plunge and ordered one last night

@Eesha Thanks. I'll check this also. Especially since it's cheaper! Wink

I've got braun. It's been amazing on top lip, legs and bikini line, really amazing. But armpits not so good. Not sure why. Very coarse hair and lighter skin maybe

Eesha · 09/02/2021 11:04

@Lottie2shoes it was 130! But what I liked was that it had the face one and the body both. Seems to have done what it needs to. I've done my face and bikini line and arms.

Lottie2shoes · 09/02/2021 11:48

@Eesha
Yes I checked it out and it was £130. I just assumed you got it for £90 in sales. I use wax on my face but this says it's better than wax so if it is, then that's a plus point for it.

Then again it says it's good for armpit and PP mentioned in her opinion it isn't. I hows we'r can't have it all! HmmGrin

Lottie2shoes · 09/02/2021 11:49
  • I guess we can't have it all
Eesha · 09/02/2021 12:02

@Lottie2shoes i used to get my body waxed but face was threaded. i definitely paid the 130 for the set but that was 50% off the RRP. I think Braun sells them separately usually which felt expensive. You could get a lower level one at Boots and then consider the face one later. I really wanted one which had the 40 hair thing which was the highest levels.

Lottie2shoes · 09/02/2021 12:20

Yes. I will look into it when I get some free time, (which is never at the minute!!) then decide from there. Thanks for your suggestions though, very helpful.
