Drying hair is soooooo boring. I want my hair dried really quickly.

Is there a product that does it well?

Hairdryer? Confused

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2021 21:48

This looked good in the adverts I have seen, but it says for short to mid length hair.

If you have mid to long hair how do you dry it quickly?

My hair is long, and I blow dry mine in sections. I clip up a bunch, dry a section, then take more down, dry it, etc. It's much, much faster than trying to blow dry all of it at once.

Shelovesamystery · 06/02/2021 21:49

Following as drying my hair is one of the biggest chores of my life 🙄

I tried a blow dry lotion once that claimed to speed up drying time, it did sweet FA.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2021 21:50

@LochJessMonster not all hairdryers are created equal. Still takes me about 10-15 minutes with the last two I have bought.

I have heard Dyson are good does anyone have one of those?

@Aquamarine1029 how long does it take you would you say?

No, it's tedious but either get up earlier and leave it to part dry while you have a brew, wash it when you get in from work and leave it to dry in the evening, or accept it won't look amazing every day and just blast it dry. I just read while I'm drying mine then whizz the straighteners over it unless I'm going out (ha!) when I'll do it properly.

ThenCatoJumpedOut · 06/02/2021 21:53

I have a fairly ordinary hairdryer, and if I do the old fashioned head forward, moving dryer at highest setting over my hair, it’s dry in 2-3 mins

(Then I brush it out and add a bit more leave in conditioner)

Just need a good basic hair dryer

lockdownalli · 06/02/2021 21:53

I dry my long very thick curly hair with a normal revlon drier. Takes about 2/3 minutes....

Hang my head upside down and blast away.

If I want to dry it straight it takes about 5/6 minutes of drying whilst brushing it straight and then GHD after.

ParkheadParadise · 06/02/2021 21:54

I dry mine the same way as Aquamarine1029
Takes about 30mins to dry and 10 mins to straighten

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2021 21:55

@Aquamarine1029 how long does it take you would you say?

I would say 10 minutes. I use a round brush, and I also do a very quick run through each section with my hot brush thing to make it perfectly smooth. I didn't start sectioning my hair until about 10 years ago, and I still shake my head about how dumb I was to not figure this out before then. It used to take forever to dry my hair.

AliceinBunniland · 06/02/2021 21:57

I have one of those drying stylers (different brand but one that is like a large brush which spins and blows out warm air) and it gives a really good blow dry but it definitely doesn't dry quickly and I would use it when my hair is 80% or more dry.

I have long curly hair.

I have the dyson dryer and I use that to rough dry my hair with the diffuser sometimes but again I usually let it dry naturally for a couple of hours first if I can.

NotPennysBoat · 06/02/2021 21:58

I have a Dyson hairdryer and very thick hair. I got an award at work and treated myself to it as a splurge, but if it broke tomorrow I'd replace it immediately.
It dries faster than my previous (hairdresser purchased) hairdryer, and it's also much lighter so I don't get arm-ache! I love it!

samlovesdilys · 06/02/2021 22:00

Another vote for the dyson I am afraid, I love it, much quicker, and better condition. Still section it up or wash, leave whilst have breakfast and then dry/straighten.

SuperPug · 06/02/2021 22:06

Yes to the Dyson as well.
Very sceptical about it before but it does dry my hair quickly (I have it on the highest settings) and my hair looks much shinier.
I used a GHD Air before. Very good at first but not so great after 18 months.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2021 22:08

Do you find the Dyson makes your hair dry/straw like though?

OP posts:
Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2021 22:09

@Aquamarine1029 what heat brush do you use to get it smooth?

@lockdownalli 2-3 minutes?! Wow I wouldn't even be able to get a quarter of mine done in that time.

Sorry the Dyson question was for you 3

Not at all straw like, in fact it's in the best condition it's ever been in (despite missing its regular cuts!)

Chewbecca · 06/02/2021 22:17

I towel dry it, brush it and leave it wrapped in a towel on top of my head for at least 20 mins by which time it is almost dry & only takes 2-3 mins to blast dry it with a big standard hairdryer.

TTCAbroad · 06/02/2021 22:17

I bought my Dyson while I still had long hair and my drying time went from maybe 15 minutes down to 10. The thing that was so wonderful though was the super short barrel, so I wasn't holding my arm waaaay out from my head, and the light weight. It definitely leaves my hair very shiny

TheDogsMother · 06/02/2021 22:20

I have shortish but thick hair and I finally succumbed to a Dyson. It drys it quickly but doesn't ruin the condition like my old cheapy hairdryer did.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2021 22:20

Good grief. Sorry for the long link. Ffs.

Sacreblue · 06/02/2021 22:21

I’ve something similar to the brush dryer and as above, it doesn’t seem any faster than a regular dryer.

I also get a bit annoyed toward the end because it takes so long & the attached brush makes it a bit harder to vary hand/arm movements and I get tired/bored Hmm

I don’t have the patience to section either so 90% of the time I put my hair up when wet.

Either in buns/rolls so it dries in curls/waves or different types of plaited arrangements so when dry & let down its either glorious mermaid waves, a cut price Kate Bush, or just dragged through a bush backwards.

In short though, I find neatest, least hassle way to manage long hair when wet is to style it up and let it dry on its own.
