If you have mid to long hair how do you dry it quickly?

Drying hair is soooooo boring. I want my hair dried really quickly.

Is there a product that does it well?

Microfibre towel. Blast with head upside down with dyson hairdryer (like others, would replace tomorrow if broke).

Then head upright, big sections, blowdry with a speeding upping brush and the dyson.
With sections, don’t get lured into spending too much time finessing the underneath bits!

Then if I have time or am going out, I go over the top layer with the babyliss turning hot brush. Gives a proper salon finish.

These are the vented brushes that speed up drying a bit. Can get them in superdrug:

Another vote for the Dyson here. I have the airwrap. It's changed my life! I have just past the shoulders length, really thick, curly hair. I can go from soaking to straight in about 15 mins. Worth every penny

MrPanks · 07/02/2021 09:22

@CocoPark

I've jus bought a Dyson. I've used it on myself twice - I have a bob and my hair is fine and thinning. I used it in my DD who has similar sounding hair to you, it was great. Silky smoothie and quick to dry. DD usually hates having her hair blow dried, but as the Dyson is less hot than other hairdryers, she didn't mind at all.

They are currently on QVC so you can see them being used, and they have a 60 day try at home policy, so if you don't like it you can send it back.

MrPanks · 07/02/2021 09:26

And you can pay all at once or in 3 instalments, which makes it feel a bit less painful on the purse strings!

I bought mine as my old Babyliss hairdryer has literally fried my hair and buns my scalp. I'm hoping the Dyson will be gentler and help me get my hair in better condition.

user85963842 · 07/02/2021 09:39

I've got the dyson hairdryer, it does dry my hair very quickly and stops it being frizzy, I don't think it's worth £300, it was a frivolous spend, but I'm pleased with it overall.

NeverRTFT · 07/02/2021 10:11

Wash it and let it dry naturally for a bit so it's not sopping wet when I get the hairdryer on it.
Ionic dryer (ghd).
Round ceramic brush.
Takes 5-7 mins.

I read once that if you take more than 10 mins to dry your hair then you are doing something wrong.

How often do you wash? I do 1-2 per week. Dry shampoo helps. Also it gets less greasy if you wash it less frequently.

Youngatheart00 · 07/02/2021 10:19

I have mid / long hair which is also thick and fairly wavy. I towel dry and then comb through. Sometimes rub a little bit of heat protector through but not always (think I’ve straightened my hair once in the last year!).

Then I just blast it with a fairly powerful dryer for literally no more than 5 mins. I don’t pin it up or section it, just move the dryer round and up and down with the nozzle pointed down (but no attachments). That gets it to 70/80% dry and I let it finish drying naturally which gives it a nice natural wave at the ends.

Youngatheart00 · 07/02/2021 10:19

Thought I would also add that when I’m at the hairdressers and they dry / style it properly with a barrel brush and dryer it literally takes them about 45 mins!!!

CocoPark · 07/02/2021 10:23

Thanks a lot for that @MrPanks Sounds ideal, I'm also currently on a Babyliss which has prob fried mine too! Think I'm sold! DH has been nagging that I haven't asked for anything for my bday next month... think he might regret that 😆

Gogglebox20 · 07/02/2021 10:23

Love the Dyson Hair stylers. The hairdryer is great, had mine about 3 and a half years now and really does dry quicker than any hairdryer I’ve used in the past and is also light to hold. My daughters also have long hair and use it, so for us it saves a lot of time. Also have the air wrap which took some getting used to but produces great curls - it can be time consuming though if you have thick hair (also if you get this it comes with a hairdryer attachment so you don’t really need to purchase the hairdryer). The Dyson straightness are also really good and cordless, which is fab, but they are quite heavy compared to GHD’s and sometimes I find they drag through my hair. I sometimes feel they don’t get hot enough either but that could be because they are cordless...you can use them with the cord too. Overall, I am impressed with these products.

TornadoOfSouls · 07/02/2021 10:25

I use a (powerful) hairdryer in one hand and a heated brush in the other to cut drying time. I have fine hair and wash it a lot. Tempted to get the Dyson Airwrap but really can’t justify the expense as it only takes 2-3 mins to dry my hair anyway Grin

stillonthattightrope · 07/02/2021 10:27

I've got an air wrap and use the hair dryer attachment. My hair dries much quicker than my old dryer.
I don't if the actual hairdryer would be even quicker but I'm pretty happy.

lazylinguist · 07/02/2021 10:32

I have a bog standard old Nicky Clarke hair dryer. I spray a bit of volumising spray on my hair, then blast it upside down with the hair dryer, brush it, then turn the ends under a bit with a barrel brush. Takes 2 minutes if that, but I have very fine hair. Doesn't look any better when a hairdresser does it, because tbh there's not much that has an effect on the extreme straightness and fineness of my hair.

KizzyKat91 · 07/02/2021 10:47

I have one of those revlon things and it takes forever to dry. It’s also very damaging and caused a load of my hair to snap off.

I have very long, thick hair and use this: www.johnlewis.com/babyliss-boutique-salon-power-blow-dry-hair-dryer/p1695667

It’s reduced my drying time to 15 mins from 30-40 with a conventional lower wattage hairdryer.

I’ve also found using a decent hair oil reduces drying time (I use morrocanoil). I think it conducts the heat and distributes it more evenly.

BusinessGoose · 07/02/2021 11:11

I definitely recommend a microfibre towel, it just sucks all of the moisture out of my hair. It totally depends on what type of hair you have after that. I just tip mine upside down and dry fit about 7 minutes with a little cheapy travel hairdryer. I don't like the more expensive/powerful hairdryers as they flatten my hair too muchSmile

AndreaMartelsCoat · 07/02/2021 11:14

I use the airwrap with the harder brush attachment. Hair is dry and swishy in under 10 minutes (my hair is curly) and is in the best condition it's ever been.

Flickoffboris · 07/02/2021 11:19

Haven't rtft but I was in a situation where I'd dread washing my hair as it would literally take 20 minutes plus to dry. I had a keratin blow dry, a few in a salon but now I do them at home, and my hair practically dries itself now. It's absolutely game changing

PatsyJStone · 07/02/2021 13:48

Can anyone give advice on keratin blow dry at home, can you use it on coloured hair I.e lightened blonde, highlighted, not bleached, which is also naturally thick and curly.

Beachlovingirl · 07/02/2021 14:11

I have long hair (middle point between shoulder and elbow) I use the revlon one step. Takes me 15 mins max.

Carycy · 07/02/2021 17:37

Long hair and lots of it. Hairdresser puts extra time in for me as my hair takes so long.

At home squeeze hair then squeeze again out of shower. Use a dock and bay hair wrap. If have time switch to a second dry one while getting ready.

Dysonnhair dryer or a proffesio hair dryer such as a diva or a Parlux is a must. Currently have a dyson. If really stuck for time I use two. My old diva which is just about alive still. Stick my head upside down and go for it with both dryers.

Hot airbrush with dryer on it at the same time when attempting to blow dry some sort of shape into it.

Carycy · 07/02/2021 17:54

Oh and I have the Revlon one step as my blow dry brush. But still use my dyson on top of it as If I were doing a normal blow dry.

Flickoffboris · 07/02/2021 18:17

@patsyjstone you can use the keratin blow dry and colour 2 weeks apart, they recommend you colour first. The keratin seems to lighten my hair a shade or 2, so bear that in mind as well. The purple box from Amazon is great.

Mrstumbletap · 07/02/2021 22:11

So helpful all of this advice.

I towel dry, use a heat protection spray and run argon oil through the end. Usually turn my head upside down and blast for 5 mins, then do the sides, then realise it's still wet, head upside down again and repeat, arms starts hurting. Sometimes give up and go to bed with it damp, which makes my head itch.

So I think it looks like I need to get a dyson but £300 eek! Or some have recommended the GHD version.

Also I do like the idea of a heat brush right at the end to give volume at the roots (does it do that?) So for those that use a heat brush to get volume and a bit of a curl or bounce to the ends of long hair, do you recommend the Revlon one?

caringcarer · 07/02/2021 22:57

Honestly, I jump out of shower, pull on clothes, grab car keys to drive child to school. I put on the heater in car and by the time I get home it has dried.

NewSummer · 07/02/2021 23:05

@SmileyClare

The Dyson hairdryer sounds good until you look at the price. £300! Shock
AND once it breaks after 2/3 years, there is NO repair service!
