If you're a size 14 what size do you take at uniqlo?

My friend is a 14 and needed an extra large in their winter coat. I find their sidings on the small size.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 06/02/2021 09:16

depends on the item.
XL for knitwear, L for the rest

JemimaTiggywinkle · 06/02/2021 09:21

I’m a size 10-12 and have just got some joggers in L, so I guess 14 would be XL

Juliancoped · 06/02/2021 09:23

Agree though am xl in some outerwear

Juliancoped · 06/02/2021 09:24

Oh agree with Turn the quote didn't work

DianaT1969 · 06/02/2021 09:27

Good luck trying to order from their website. It's awful. Buggy and bounces around with poor navigation. I'm amazed they sell anything on it.

Mumsnut · 06/02/2021 09:45

Also, they won’t allow you to return some things if you get the size wrong (in my case, even when it said on the item blurb that they were returnable!). Underwear, camisoles - someone here even was refused a return for leggings

bigtimefun · 06/02/2021 17:40

Thank you I thought I was going crazy ordering stuff in XL but sounds like that's right for me?

Their sizing seems to be a bit mad - there are size charts, according to which an L is a 76cm waist. DD has a 76cm waist (which should be a size 12) when measured with a tape measure so we ordered her an L in heattech trousers (not thermals). When they arrived they were so huge they were comical (she had to hold them up) and comfortable on me - then I had an 86cm waist measured with a tape measure (16 or 18 depending on brand) which should have been an XXL.

I have XL thermals which fit nicely at that size but now I've lost a couple of cm off mywaist, making me a true 16, they're baggy and more useful as slouchy pyjamas... I did wash them as per instuctions...

So I'd say they come up big compared to their size charts, but those are the only things i've ever ordered from there, and other people have repirted things coming up tiny, so I conclude they're hit and miss, which isn't great when they're unhelpful about returns!

I like some of their stuff and the heattech stuff is warm and soft, but I'm put off ordering anything else because I don't trust the sizing or return policy having heard other people's experience.

SpeckledyHen · 07/02/2021 16:16

XL knitwear and coats . Not bought any of their trousers etc

curlytops21 · 07/02/2021 19:16

Agree with this too. Also worth checking reviews as some stuff is deliberately oversized and in which case you may want to size down.

Careful if it's a collaboration though OP. I am slim, but with 38 GG boobs and needed a size M in a Marimekko tunic top. Love Uniqlo though.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 07/02/2021 19:28

@Wearywithteens I think it's one of those brands where the odd pieces are fab but not a complete 'look' IYSWIM? I love the Innes and Marimekko colabs. but don't wear much from outside of those apart from Heatech. I find Cos. to be as you do Uniqlo, only much more spendy.

Wandamakestoast · 07/02/2021 22:27

I am a 14 and wear their smart trousers in L.
I have a couple of pairs.

I haven’t tried the knitwear - ordered a jumper but it wasn’t delivered (and it was a right PITA getting a refund from them).

quickkimchi · 07/02/2021 22:37

Depends on what you're ordering. I have a bunch of the down jackets and gilets and always take a medium, I think XL would swamp me. I'm tall though and not very busty.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/02/2021 18:09

I'm your size and just got some joggers in small. I tried the medium and small in the shop and the medium was too big.
Gwenhwyfar · 08/02/2021 18:10

@Wearywithteens

The style board is crazy for Uniqlo - I just don’t get the hype - everything seems so drab and boxy. I’m a size 16 (with big boobs) and ordered a cardigan in xl which fit fine but it was nothing special.
I go there for warm things, not for style.
Elsabet · 08/02/2021 20:57

I am a 14 and wear a XL in the merino knitwear for work as I don’t want anything snug fitting.
I brought a pair of the heat tech thermal leggings, they suggested a XL on the site buy they are too big. OK , but not snug enough to wear under other clothes but ok for their current lounge wear use!

NeedWineNow · 09/02/2021 09:13

I'm a 14 as well. As a rule I buy a L in trousers and tops. I did get an XL in a mac once which was slightly too big, but was the only size left in the sale.

museumum · 09/02/2021 09:16

I’m a 14 with boobs and wear a L in shirts, tshirts, jumper and Mac. All are quite baggy styles though, I’ve never bought anything fitted from them.
