Is it me or does John Lewis have a lot of out of stock items online?

I try to buy whatever I can from John Lewis and I’m beginning to notice their weakness online is the availability of stock. I have wanted to buy several items from JL and decided to go elsewhere as they didn’t have any.

Does anyone else have this problem with John Lewis or am I just unlucky?

@Juliancoped

I dont get the loyalty in waiting for JL to have the item when you can get elsewhere.
I have a JL credit card so sometimes get extra points for shopping in JL. Points translate into vouchers (which I then need to spend at JL...😂)

I've noticed this with lots of retailers

I've been liking for a specific coat from Ted Baker, they didn't have my size at an outlet, and have been looking since before Christmas. I'd also checked other stockists like JL and this item had been out of stock since November. As it was last seasons colour I'd given up hope

For some reason I clicked on the annoyingly teasing advert on here of MY coat and lie and behold it was now in stock

I'd reckoned they had pulled stock from outlets/ shops any when it arrived it did have an outlet tag on

LindaCartersBun · 06/02/2021 12:05

They’ve always been crap for this, before Brexit and covid.

Volcanoexplorer · 06/02/2021 13:41

I’ve noticed this in lots of places. For example, I’ve been looking for sofa cushions and lots of them are out of stock in lots of places. Next had some nice ones, but the delivery time was 18-20 weeks!

NeedWineNow · 06/02/2021 17:54

Another here saying thank God for the Out of Stock button. I was ordering stuff in the M & S sale, some of which said 'low stock remaining '. By the time I got to checkout and pay half of the items were showing as out of stock. Same thing happened with Accessorize. Drives me mad 😠

TheDogsMother · 06/02/2021 17:56

I've noticed this at JL and a number of other stores too. I guessed it was to do with Brexit.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/02/2021 18:31

I wait for things because I don’t want them swallowed up by Mike Ashley & going downmarket.

Mazeofpipes · 06/02/2021 18:54

Yes, a ridiculous amount. I’ve started to click on the thing that means they don’t show you stuff that is out of stock when you’re scrolling through. I’ve not visited another site with quite so much unavailable items though.

Mazeofpipes · 06/02/2021 18:54

Oh and Next kids. That’s bad.

namechange63524 · 06/02/2021 19:26

@Tuscadero

I always click the button that says 'do not display out of stock items' as otherwise I find the online John Lewis shopping experience too irritating.
I do that too but then you click on items sometimes and it says out of stock 🤷‍♀️
Hairbrush123 · 06/02/2021 23:07

Interesting that so many people have the same experience as me. I can’t wait for the shops to open up again so I can just buy it in store as they usually have stock in my closest store. It’s good they send you a notification when it’s back in stock but I’ve been waiting a few months for some things!

JL closed their Birmingham branch which I was upset about but their Solihull branch is closer to me and just as good so not too bad! I did buy a fridge from AO which is actually coming tomorrow so thanks for the suggestion! Grin

Yes, I've noticed this, but tbf, I think it isn't a new problem at JL.

When I search for anything, I now filter so as not to show out of stock items.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 07/02/2021 07:32

It's nice to support a struggling British brand.

I have noticed this as well although l've only been looking at clothes and jewellery.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 07/02/2021 08:15

I also hate that you can’t save a list of favourite brands to browse. I dont want to see stuff from Gerald Darrel or whoever, but it takes me ages each time to tick through the ones I do want to see.

Sarahfredick · 23/06/2021 16:47

Regarding your post about John Lewis, they have the same constant issues in store as well. After talking to the beauty staff they said that the John Lewis system is very outdated, and the beauty buyers send in what they think you should have instead of the stock they actually need. I do feel sorry for the beauty staff working on the counters it must’ve so frustrating for them.

NautaOcts · 23/06/2021 16:54

Yep agree
Wanted some outdoors glassware, absolutely nothing available!

Boood · 23/06/2021 18:27

Definitely not just JL, I’ve seen this at Wayfair, M&S and Next as well. I think it’s probably a combination of Brexit, covid, the Suez canal thing and the shortage of containers. If it’s still happening in a year it’ll all be Brexit though!

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 20:59

I do as pps say and hide out of stock items. I have ordered the odd thing which then they've said they can't send as it's out of stock. That's annoying as you then need to wait for a refund.

blairresignationjam · 23/06/2021 21:04

It's driving me crazy

WeeM · 23/06/2021 21:15

Their app has always bugged me for this. Despite filtering it to not show out of stock items, it still does!

Noapplejustcrumble · 24/06/2021 14:13

Went to my local M&S today. They had no dresses at all, only trousers! Very little stock, but racks and racks of trousers and shorts. I asked a member of staff and they said they have sold out of dresses because of the hot weather. But something wrong with their system, because I’m sure I could order a dress from their website, but not buy from their store. No hope in shops staying open if this is how they operate.
