I finally got the diamond earrings of my dreams but they HURT

DP bought me a pair of solitaire earrings as an anniversary gift. I've wanted a pair for about a decade so it was pretty special.

However, when they arrived I saw that they were a screw stem and it hurt like a bitch to put them in. And the them out. My ears bled and I've been wearing stainless steel earrings for a couple of weeks while my ears heal.

I don't know what to do. I kind of resent them now, even though they are beautiful.

Is this normal? I don't want to return them as it was a very good deal for diamonds (1ct total) and I LOVE how they sparkle but I can't deal with the pain.

My wallets to small for my 50,s and my diamond shoes are too tight Hmm fgs

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 05/02/2021 23:47

Yikes

CornedBeef451 · 05/02/2021 23:59

That looks very thick. I'd get the stems changed for thinner ones.

I had to have mine done as I lost one of the backs. I think it cost about £60 for both earrings.

£60 is ok actually, I thought it would be hundreds.

Are you lol?

TheBeesKnee · 06/02/2021 00:09

Opia90

Do you usually resent others for having nice things and enjoy shitting on people's parade?

Opia90 · 06/02/2021 00:12

Do you always moan about having nice things?

MrsApplepants · 06/02/2021 00:14

My diamond studs have a locking butterfly back, it looks like a normal butterfly but you have to squeeze the sides to release it, not just pull it off like a normal butterfly. There is a name for this fitting but I can’t remember what it is sorry. They are much more comfy than a screw fitting though. Expensive earrings do need a more secure fastening than just an ordinary butterfly though.

TheBeesKnee · 06/02/2021 00:17

MrsApplepants

Ah yes, I had that type on a pearl set.

I was very annoyed as I'd had them for 10 years, worrying about losing the back every time I took them out, finally I did it and it was gone forever.

Mine are white gold so could be a lot more if they're platinum.

Opia90 · 06/02/2021 00:21

Grin it's a hard life ay x sorry your diamonds are hurting Flowers

DK123 · 06/02/2021 00:21

I'd seriously get those re-set. I had some diamond earrings of a reasonable size set like that, they made my ears bleed and I had such trouble with them I had the holes stitched up and don't wear earrings any more. I don't want anyone else to find that happens to them, they made a real mess of my ears.

Joiningthegossip · 06/02/2021 00:36

Perhaps buy some earrings that they use for gun piercings, the stems are much thicker so your ear may adjust first before going over to the screw ones.
You can get them on eBay cheap enough, look up studded piercing studs just avoid the ones in pick packaging as they are a little smaller.

Joiningthegossip · 06/02/2021 00:37

Sorry, studex piercing earrings

Planty13 · 06/02/2021 00:41

Buy a cheapie travel pillow (or maybe you have one) and put the earrings in and leave for a few days (travel pillow for sleeping with, set it like a normal pillow and your ear should be resting through the hole.) good luck

MountainPeakGeek · 06/02/2021 04:07

At minimum I would have the posts made a bit shorter, and smoothed off on the ends, so that when you eventually get them in, you can wear them overnight. I have lots of stud type earrings but only a couple of pairs are comfortable to sleep in (another side-sleeper here.) I can't see that being expensive at all because it's not a tricky task or using any more gold, and you still have the security of the screw backs.

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 06/02/2021 06:52

I have a lot of screw in earrings but yours seem thicker. I wonder if you can switch to narrower screw ones; whilst we are all wearing masks the screw ends mean they're less likely to flick out when taking off your mask.

Oblomov21 · 06/02/2021 07:00

I've never worn screw earrings. Make sense though fit the expense.

user1497787065 · 06/02/2021 07:00

I have screw in diamond studs and wear them all the time as in never take them out. I think they are fab and do not need the backs to be pushed in tightly like a normal earring for them to feel secure.

ouchmyfeet · 06/02/2021 07:02

I have a pair of diamond earrings that I never wear for this same reason. Contemplating getting them made into something else

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 06/02/2021 07:02

I can't tell you how many earrings I've lost this year due to them getting caught in the elastic of my facemask. Gutting enough at £5-20 a pair, can't imagine the panic if 0.5c of diamond pinged off my ear!

Try and stick with the screw back, or at least make sure you have incredible insurance!

NaughtipussMaximus · 06/02/2021 08:01

If you want to stretch your piercing holes, but don’t like sleeping in studs because they jab your neck/head, you could try some small hinged hoops. I have a pair of gold hinged hoops, they’re only about 1cm in diameter so not very noticeable, but they’re thicker than my other earrings’ posts. I pop them in with a bit of Vaseline or even Savlon on and can wear them for ages without removing them.
