Does anyone else just feel wrong without a fringe?

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 05/02/2021 14:59

I've had one for most of my adult life and have recently grown it out and it turns out I just don't feel like me without it so I think I'm going to cut it back in this weekend.

Reasons I don't like it:

  1. I'm always tucking my hair behind my ears now. Otherwise it just hangs there in my face.
  1. I can't tie my hair up anymore as I don't have my shaggy fringe and wispy bits framing my face so instead of a fat Jane Birkin I now look like Moonface from The Magic Faraway Tree (see pic).
  1. I have a horizontal childhood scar on my forehead which is now fully visible and looks like a wrinkle (I dont have any others thankfully).
  1. I feel bland and boring.

Anyone else never fully dressed without a fringe?

Yes, me. It's not a question of "fully dressed," I just don't think not having a fringe suits my face shape at all - it looks long and droopy and tired. (I'm actually quite fat, so this may just be my personal perception and not what anybody else would see, but I don't feel at my best without a fringe and that affects how I feel about life in general, so I always have one now.)

BarryTheChopper · 05/02/2021 19:32

It doesn’t suit me without a fringe either. I always have one, usually a full blunt fringe.

I love it!

Londoncatshed · 05/02/2021 21:50

Yep fringe throughout my life. Grow it out, look shit, cut it back in. I have a real love hate relationship with my fringe. I have a perfectly normal forehead, nothing to hide but I can’t live without it.

bellagogosdead · 05/02/2021 21:55

I have always had a fringe, I think almost everyone looks better with one.
What's with the pic? Confused

Mazeofpipes · 05/02/2021 21:55

I look a bugger without one. My nose is big and a fringe balances my face/features. In the first lockdown I grew mine out and as soon as the hairdresser opened in August I got it cut back into a fringe again. It looks so much better.

bellagogosdead · 05/02/2021 21:59

Oh just seen the faraway tree thingie. Ignore me. ( alcohol may have been consumed)

Abracadabra12345 · 05/02/2021 22:04

I remember years ago when a friend’s wife got a fringe cut in. I didn’t recognise her at first, she looked so different. She looked amazing and because the fringe stopped just above her eyes, you realised what gorgeous, big blue eyes she had: somehow, they’d been kind of lost in the rest of her face before her fringe. Fringes really can drastically alter a face and always bring attention to the eyes. They also very helpfully cover up any forehead wrinkles

I have a fringe! I will never not have a fringe 😊

YewandOak · 05/02/2021 22:13

I look odd with a fringe,not had one since I was 5 or 6

mineofuselessinformation · 05/02/2021 22:18

If I don't have a fringe I show off my delightfully wrinkled not four but five really forehead.
It really isn't a look that works for me.

Purpleblondelady · 06/02/2021 00:18

My fringe is my thing, I've had one for about the last 14 years. I think my hairdresser would like me to get rid of it but it hides my forehead lines. It does look a bit crappy at moment though because my colour is growing out

mizu · 06/02/2021 09:02

I have a fringe and love it, don't even need to do anything with it, it's just there. I like a slightly longer fridge and it's longer at the sides too. I have had to start snipping into it though as its getting without long.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/02/2021 09:07

I have a fringe, I look like Ozzy Osborne without one it just doesn't suit me.
I'm in my 50s so it's a good wrinkle hider too.

Chickydoo · 06/02/2021 09:16

Had a fringe for 40+ years, now without one for the first time.
People say they prefer it, I'm not sure. Trouble is my hair is very fine & my fringe had started to blow around in the wind. No amount of hair products would weigh it down.
Without a fringe I can brush it all back, or tie it all up. Trouble is I now look bald as I have a huge forehead.

Juliancoped · 06/02/2021 09:19

I always had one then grew it out. I have to clip my hair back all the time but I quit like it. The grunge growing out always got stuck in the hinges of my glasses. I do think I now look like olive from on the buses most days tho. Grin

Juliancoped · 06/02/2021 09:19

Grunge! Fringe

SwanShaped · 06/02/2021 09:27

Yes. I don’t like the way I look without a fringe.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 06/02/2021 09:31

Ozzy Osbourne! Yes! That's who I look like with these lengths just hanging around my face.

Another fringe pro is that, when I'm in minger mode, I can just wash and style my fringe and dry shampoo the rest and stick it up in a messy bun!

Am going to cut it today. You've all convinced me!

Yes I've almost always had one and can't imagine being without it. I'm getting quite adept at trimming it in lockdown too Grin

MissMogwai · 06/02/2021 09:43

I've always had one but grew it out two years ago. The past year of countless Teams calls and staring at my giant forehead made me have it cut back in!

I definitely look younger and more 'myself' with a fringe. I have a heart shaped face so it balances my pointy witchy chin.

My only gripe is that as I can't trim it properly myself, or it looks like I've cut it with a bloody knife and fork. Any tips?

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 06/02/2021 09:52

Miss my tip is proper hairdressing scissors (Amazon) and youtube. There are tutorials for all different kinds of fringes.

I have a strong chin/jaw too (look a bit like Kelly Osbourne actually) and I think the fringe softens/balances my face.

LegendDairy · 06/02/2021 09:54

Yep, I look better with a fringe but it has this magic length where it looks great for about 3 days and then it's just that bit too long where it starts getting in my way and on my nerves. So I have to do micro trims every week.

Jumpalicious · 06/02/2021 10:00

Do you all have big foreheads? I have a small one. Love a fringe, but it never works on me...

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 06/02/2021 10:02

Oh and cut it dry, never wet.

OP posts:
SwanShaped · 06/02/2021 10:18

I have a high forehead. My fringe is currently too long and now I look like David Mitchell. The comedian. It’s awful

ageingdisgracefully · 06/02/2021 10:44

I've had one since a hairdresser said my nose was too big for curtain - style hanging hair.

I think most women look better with a fringe as it balances out features and frames a face.

I'm too wrinkly to go without now.
