Decent alternatives to p50?

As much as I would like to try this is not financially possible for me.
My skin is used to acids/ tretinoin and is pretty robust so can take something stronger. I once tried pixie glow and it did nothing.
Has anyone used an alternative, less pricey product they could recommend?
🙂

Sorry, nope, I think the Dennis Gross extreme pads come close in terms of brute instant effect but they're much more irritating, wasteful and expensive. I would say P50 is quite economical in use, I buy a travel size (50ml, I pay €25) and it lasts me around 7 months.

I think the Inkey list has a pha toner now, not sure if it would be any good but perhaps worth a try?

BigButtons · 04/02/2021 10:12

@botemp thanks. Can you get the travel size in the uk? Price- wise that would be do-able.
As I understand we can’t get the original formula here. So I’m guessing I’d be looking at the one for aged skin (53)?

You can’t get the travel size in the UK. A travel size wouldn’t last me half of that time but I agree that it’s generally really economical in terms of how little you use.

botemp · 04/02/2021 10:23

Yes, should have said I use it every other day, I wouldn't use it more than that with Tret also as part of my routine but ymmv. I think Liberty's did have the travel sizes, the embassy spa one where you can get it online after going through a ridiculous questionnaire doesn't have the travel sizes. But BR has really expanded their sales points and considering Covid loads will likely be able to send it to you.

The original 1970 formula has phenol in it, we can't get that but you can get the regular P50 afaik, although they always strongly suggest you start with P50W, V is for mature skin, I use the PIGM 400 as that sits somewhat below the full strength P50 which I find a bit much alongside Tret, I'm on the more sensitive than rhino side of skin though.

Thanks so much. I will contact them directly. If it really is that good it might be worth dipping into a bit of my rainy day savings.
Good tip on every other day. I’m trying to buffer the Trey and although that really helps with the soreness it is giving me very dry skin- central heating and cold is adding to that as well I suspect.

I did go through the ridiculous skincare analysis. It costs £67. is this a bog standard price?

They say you shouldn't use it with retin A
I do think it lasts a v long time and it completely changes your skin tone

They say to start on w but if you have used acids before and its a once off purchase I would just get the V and dilute with a bit of water if there is an issue. Use morning and evening

botemp · 04/02/2021 14:34

For the 150ml, I think so, it's around €60 iirc so sounds about right. If you know anyone in Ireland they can order through Skin by Olga (after an easy sign up), they sell the travel sizes and the Euro price is a bit cheaper so would cover the extra shipping

Which one do you want to get, I've tried them all except V, and the classic (not the phenol one) is the most punchy.

Yes, officially they don't even want you using it with retinol even, but just don't use it in the same routine (and I've even done that by accident and nothing terrible happened but you're definitely toying with the integrity of your skin barrier if you do this regularly).

BigButtons · 04/02/2021 15:15

Thanks so much.
So I could alternate nights with the tret and the p50? I guess I'll get the classic one.
I want one that I can feel working- a bit of a tingle. My skin is pretty tough so I would hope it can cope with the classic and polite if necessary. I used to do quite strong peels on my face then couldn't be bothered after a while. I tolerated them pretty well though.

Then the V
I use all the BR products. They are amazing - I look younger now than I did 10 years ago and I don't naturally have good skin
Plus I have the worst habits yet my skin forgives me all of them now. The full regime is so expensive though, not for the faint hearted

botemp · 04/02/2021 17:50

Yes, you can alternate nights. I often use it in the morning, it works really well cleaning up any Tret 'dustyness' as I call it, in a pinch you can even use it as a morning cleanse in an emergency.

The classic P50 is definitely the strongest (then PIGM 400, V and finally W, there's also a very watered down one for the Canadian market due to regulations), it doesn't tingle for me but I've been using it for years now. It definitely felt 'active' when I first moved up to that strength.

I don't think P50 generally causes issues using it once, it's more with frequent use that irritation can occur. Even without tret I've never been able to use it daily (which they really push as advice), but every other day is fine and I daresay quite gentle 🤷

BigButtons · 04/02/2021 18:48

@workshy44 can I ask a couple of things?
Why the v as opposed to the others and can you tell me about other products in the line that you use?
@botemp you are always an amazing source of knowledge and info. Thank you for all your help🙂

Jedstre · 04/02/2021 19:04

I would concur that the p50 lasts a long time. I use the classic version twice a week at night, tretinoin the other nights.

BigButtons · 04/02/2021 20:57

@Jedstre thanks- where so you get yours from?

OP posts:
Jedstre · 04/02/2021 22:53

I bought it on line from embassy of beauty so full size bottle but lasts me about a year using it twice a week.

workshy44 · 05/02/2021 16:33

Because if your skin is robust and you don't have a lot of money starting with the w is probably a waste of time and you won't get the full effect of it. I use mine twice a day
They have tons of products, it really depends on your skin type. Probably serum elastine and VG Tensil as both can be used on any skin type I think

Elastine for fine lines and you can use under the eye so you don't need an eye cream. VG Tensil for the jowls and skin firming. It zapped my jowls. BR products are v v expensive, they are worth it but if you have limited money the one probably I would go for would be the P50 V

BigButtons · 06/02/2021 09:10

Thank you all for your help. I ordered some yesterday and have looked at videos about how best to apply it. I will start with a wet cotton pad I think. Maybe gauze is better?
