Skinandme - not prescribed tretinoin?

Has anyone subscribed to Skinandme and not been prescribed Tretinoin for anti-aging? I am a bit gutted as I am 48 and my skin definitely needs some help now and this seemed like a good way of starting to use a retinoid. They’ve prescribed me Azelaic Acid (4%) and Niacinamide (4%), which seems a waste of time without Tretinoin and not worth £19.99 a month. I’m not that clued up about skincare but everything I’ve read seems to say that retinols/retinoids are the only things that really make a difference.

That does sound quite odd. What did you say your skin issues were? As you say you can get the other two more cheaply.

That's weird. I went through the questionnaire bit but didn't complete it fully as I'd prefer to know details of the prescription before I give them my payment details.

Bloodhoundgang · 06/02/2021 02:09

Just got mine today with all 3 mixed in. Have you any contraindications to Tretonin maybe?

Perfumista · 06/02/2021 08:02

Don't worry. I was in the same boat as you. I had the first 2 months of Skin and Me with no tret prescribed. I was really miffed. Anyway, I at month 3, I got given a small dose of tret. I am not into Month 5 and have 0.012%. Blimey!! It doesn't half work. I can only assume the first 2 months were to set the groundwork. My friend got tret on her first month and she is 4 years younger than me, so I have no idea how that works??

I think you can just email them and explain what you want. Certainly, that’s what I did with dermatica when their prescription didn’t suit me at first. They had prescribed me Niacinamide and it always breaks me out . They were very helpful and changed it : for Tretinoin I think it by helps to explain that your main concern is fine lines. They generally prescribe Azelaic acid for pigmentation issues. Good luck .

I was on 0.006 tretinoin the first month, 0.009 the second month and my 3rd one (shipped but not started yet) is 0.012. I'm 29. I had been using the ordinary retinols for well over a year before I started skin and me though so my skin had already built up a decent tolerance. My solution has also got clindamycin and azelaic acid.

It's bloody amazing stuff, my skin hasn't looked this good in years. It's so much more radient and I've not had a big angry spot since I started. I'm usually a cheapskate when it comes to skincare and only ordered it because it was about £4 for your first tube. I'm actually happy to spend £20 a month on one skincare product now which is unheard of for me 😂 I'm saving a bit of money though because I used to use 3 different serums, face mask and scrub that I no longer bother with because I just don't need them. Now it's just face wash, skin and me, moisturiser and SPF.

Bloodhoundgang · 06/02/2021 10:13

@Shelovesamystery which SPF do you use as a matter of interest?? I am on the search for a non sticky one. The elusive strong but still light feeling one must be out there..

Shelovesamystery · 06/02/2021 11:02

@Bloodhoundgang Ambre solaire sensitive advanced spf50 for face, either the fluid or the mist. The mist is really light but I use it as more of a top up or if I'm not going out much that day. The fluid isn't as lightweight as it claims but it's the best I've found on a budget that doesn't irritate my skin.

CirceOfAeaea · 06/02/2021 11:35

They didn’t give me tret in my first few doses (I had an antibiotic instead) so I just asked them to put it in and they did!

MayDayFightsBack · 06/02/2021 21:25

Thanks for everyone who replied. I feel a bit silly saying this now but it was all my fault, I somehow managed to tick the box saying I couldn't tolerate Tretinoin. I've no idea how I did it but I was filling it in on my phone screen and it does jump around sometimes. I wrote to Skindandme and asked them what was going on and they explained what had happened and immediately changed my prescription and have sent me out a new doser so I'm really pleased with their customer service. It's very heartening to read all the good reviews on this thread too. Thanks again, what can I say? I am a twit!
