Am quite enjoying her wardrobe this, treading a nice line between looking ‘now’ and effortlessly fashionable but not like she’s trying to be twenty years younger. Bootcuts made an appearance, which I haven’t seen on TV for years and she’s doing that slightly outsized look in a really flattering way (when I try it I look like I lost weight and didn’t bother to buy better fitting clothes Grin)

I've really been enjoying her clothes. I'd love to know where some of them are from. Especially the belted tartan coat.

Ginfordinner · 03/02/2021 23:26

On the other thread everyone is saying the wardrobe department needs to be sacked, especially over the dressing gown coat Grin

IcedLimes · 03/02/2021 23:51

I like the coat as it's a bit different from what I see where I live and colourful.

TableNiner · 04/02/2021 00:01

Ooh what’s the other thread @Ginfordinner, is it on this board? I only really look at S&B.

I wouldn’t wear the coat myself but think it’s quirky without being wacky

I think she looks great. I love the tartan coat but yes it is getting a hammering over on the other board.
Thanks for this post as I didn’t know about the show so watched the first episode this morning (couldn’t sleep). Highly implausible but very watchable.
Her house is gorgeous and her ex DH is easy on the eye too Grin

IcedLimes · 04/02/2021 08:50

I think the other thread was on telly addicts. I'm enjoying the series.

UnusuallyUsual · 04/02/2021 15:51

I've been watching this and did wonder if she still shops at Littlewoods Hmm

Deathraystare · 04/02/2021 17:19

I was smiling as I watched it thinking I bet Mumsnet is alive with people asking about her clothes!

BeaSmithers · 04/02/2021 22:01

Seriously? Everything she's worn is downright awful. Unflattering and frumpy

user1494055864 · 04/02/2021 23:08

I thought it was odd that she was wearing outdoor boots with a dressing gown in the first episode Grin

Floisme · 04/02/2021 23:16

I didn't much like the coat but I thought it worked well in that I could imagine her character choosing it. In fact I thought all the characters' clothes were well thought out.

livefornaps · 04/02/2021 23:18

I hated that tartan coat!!! Hate the fringing, also it did nothing for her, really frumpy over her bum

Happymum12345 · 04/02/2021 23:57

I honestly did think it was her dressing gown in the first episode and wondered why she was going out with it on with her bag. I grew on me by the end.

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2021 08:38

On the other thread her character has been given the nickname "picnic blanket coat" Grin

MoreRainbowsPlease · 05/02/2021 18:18

I am not known for my fashion sense which probably explains why I liked the coat!

MapleMay11 · 05/02/2021 18:46

Yes, just awful but suits her character perfectly.

Floisme · 05/02/2021 19:11

I thought they suited the character too. She's grieving and depressed, been unable to move on for 10 years, also skint (nice house but can't / won't move because it's a link with her son). And despite all that yet she still has a bit of spark about her. I thought her clothes, and particularly the coat, reflected all that very well.

IcedLimes · 10/02/2021 21:21

I'm watching Extraordinary Escapes with Sandi Toksvig and I noticed in a future episode with Prue Leith, Sandi is wearing a coat with a similar check to Jill Halfpenny's in the Drowning. I like it (and I like Sandi Toksvig. I saw her show when she was touring and loved it)

Gosh £600!

It does look expensive but blimey that is a lot.

kwest · 12/02/2021 14:17

Also the sort of coat that has to be worn done up. Would look rubbish undone with belt hanging loose. Can imagine loosing the belt if it’s not done up too.
