Quirky work clothes?

checkingforballoons · 02/02/2021 19:02

I’m after some work clothes and don’t know where to look. I’m in a customer facing role and like to look reasonably smart but can wear whatever I like really. 35, short (5ft 1) and curvy (size 12, 32H). I’m in the process of losing weight so don’t want to spend too much (but even some brands to chase up on eBay would be great!).
I like dark colours, unusual shapes and quirky prints. Style wise I like ASOS, Zara, All Saints, Vivienne Westwood, 50’s shapes.
Any ideas?! Also happy to accept that I’m a lost cause Grin

Have you looked at Jo Brown

Zesting · 02/02/2021 19:08

Harkel do some great dresses and skirts.

checkingforballoons · 02/02/2021 19:14

Joe Browns isn’t my thing at all, but thank you.
I hadn’t heard of Harkel before but I really like a couple of their skirts. Hooray!

Have you looked at COS? Depends on your budget, but they have some quirky shaping that reminds me of Vivienne Westwood.

Oliver Bonas sale maybe?

Bluewavescrashing · 02/02/2021 19:37

Harkel have 60% off everything, even sale items with code ORGANIC. I'm short and curvy and the fit is great.

checkingforballoons · 02/02/2021 19:41

How have I not looked at COS before?! Exactly
what I’m after. Thank you!

Mint Velvet sale?! I love this dress Grin

I missed the last two posts there. Will peruse Oliver Bonas, and good to know about the Harkel fit.

Mint Velvet dress is gorgeous but shirt dresses tend to be a nightmare for me

Get cutie dresses for 50s vibe, but trawl ebay?

Wrap dress? Thought is more pricey but usually have good sales and quality is good.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/02/2021 19:51

You could maybe have a look on Joanie Clothing too at dresses / skirts?

JMAngel1 · 02/02/2021 21:56

Is Cos not for taller people though?
They don't have a petite section.
I ordered a dress once and it swamped me - I'm 5 foot 3.

withmycoffee · 02/02/2021 22:26

Cos isn't great fir short and curvy. It's quite stiff so sticks out from boobs and naked you look bigger. Dresses are definitely made fir taller women

I hope OP isn't going into work naked! Shock Grin

Agree re COS - it’s very much part of the ‘Swedish architect’ look that often gets snarked about here. It can be lovely, but shop carefully!

checkingforballoons · 03/02/2021 07:28

Making notes here!
I did think I’d need to be careful with COS, but I think there’s a few bits I could make work.
I try not to go into work naked but sometimes it’s getting dressed or having a coffee, so...

Try EBay for Hobbs & LK Bennett skirts and dresses. And maybe shoes if you want smart shoes. Some plain bits from Cos would work well, if you choose wisely (I can’t wear their dresses or skirts, I’m 5’ 2”), maybe cardigans and jumpers from Uniqlo.
