Hello folks,

Ahhh! Dress? Hair up or down?
I’m 42, hair ash blonde mid length with highlights that are adding a lot (last done a year ago!), size 12-14, skin pretty good (best feature!)..

Any advice?

Adding a lot? Um ageing a lot I meant!

I’m a big fan of dresses
Hair up or down depends on length and style
I’d go with whatever will make you feel most confident
I’m team hair down but have a shoulder length curly style so up doesn’t work for me unless it’s for the gym

Thank you! I’m thinking hair down and dress too. It’s just so hard not having the normal interview rituals to get you in the mindset - hair cut, new shoes etc..

Hair down if you're not a fidgeter. I'm definitely more conscious of my hair on Zoom than I would be in a normal interview where I can't see my face the whole time. Otherwise, tie it up or maybe clip some of it back off your face.

Good luck!

Use the extra lighting and/or touch up feature on zoom- makes a massive difference 😊

Ooo all great advice - thank you!

I went on a "Zooming with style" event which was mostly about churches etc but there were some helpful hints about clothes and what is behind you. So clothes - wear plain colours that are not too light or dark - so red, emerald green, fuschia, royal blue, I suppose I would call them strong colours. And don't forget to check what is on your shelves behind you. If you can have a fairly clear background with a plant or two, a few books and a vase type object then that is best. Apparently. I suppose you could make sure you had books that pertain to your research. Good luck!

Good luck!

I interviewed in person a few years back and wore a dark jewel tone dress. I think a dress or a fancy top is best. You can wear blazer if you are cold but need to fancy it up.

For interviews I tend to wear my hair half up half down because I fiddle with it!

It's also worth checking what your outfit looks like on screen by using the video preview you can find under Settings in your Zoom app. I recently had to change my cardigan at the last minute before a Zoom meeting when the cardi that looks a lovely muted olive green in real life looked a luminous neon on screen.
