Dermatica vs Skin+Me - for acne? Or London dermatologist recommendations

Following my recent thread, I’m considering trying one of these for my stubborn long term hormonal acne - plus ageing/melasma, but mainly the acne. I’ve tried lots of the usual medications over the years but never really had a tailored programme.

Any experience please? Has anyone had success with them specifically for this? Or tried them but it didn’t help?

Alternatively, if you have seen a London based dermatologist for acne and had success, I would love their details. Especially if they did a more tailored approach than just prescribing Roaccutane (which I’ve tried).

Many thanks!

Hi there. I have a code you can use at Skin + me to get your 1st + 5th months for free. please use KARENC6QDE on the check out. Enjoy it 😋

I gave up Dermatica because they never answered my emails with progress reports. Currently with Skin+Me and not seeing much progress. They start at a very low level and the max tretinoin they prescribe is still fairly low and doesn't seem to be shifting my hormonal acne either unfortunately. I guess it's very dependent on your own skin but no miracle results here.

I’m using Dermatica. I’m only 1.5 months in and finding it ok but not miraculous, though it takes 3 months to see the results of any treatment so too early to tell really. I started it for anti-ageing but they suggested I started with the acne prescription first. I was quite surprised and only had a couple of small active spots (time of the month) but went with it as the prescription is still a retinoid (adapalene plus other ingredients) so has some anti ageing effects.

I’ve heard lots of similar feedback re lack of input and review from dermatologists at the 3 month mark for both Dermatica and skin+me.

If your acne is moderate-severe and you want / need good support from a Dr throughout the course of your treatment and can afford it, I’d go to a private dermatologist. It’s a much more expensive route but the follow up care will be much better. It’s one of the reasons that the subscription services are so cheap, the f/up care is very, very basic.

I joined Dermatica for acne. I feel they’ve really listened to my concerns. They started me on 0.05 tretinoin as I’d used it before and now I’m on 0.1. I also have the antibiotic clindamycin and niacinamide. I effectively don’t have any spots now, a year in. My blackheads are gone too and I’m glad there’s an anti ageing/pigmentation benefit too. Wish I’d done it years ago.

I didn’t know about Skin + Me at the time, I imagine I would have been torn between which to go for and sometimes it’s tempting to give them a go. But I can’t see how Skin + Me could be any better for me and not sure about how slowly they adjust your tret. I believe Skin + Me have better tubes though (recyclable?) I do feel a bit guilty about all the plastic.

My experience with Dermatica has been great. I had horrendous deep acne which flared up last year and it was painful and embarrassing. Dermatica has completely gotten rid of it. I too was on 0.05% tret originally and now on 0.1% - I had good results within the first month and now just use every 2-3 days. My skin isn’t perfect (still some melasma) but is the best it has ever been

Skin + Me is the only thing I have ever tried for my skin that has worked (including seeing a skin therapist and spending ££ on products!).

It's stopped the cystic lumps and now I just get some tiny whiteheads, that are almost certainly caused by mask-wearing. It's taken time but I am impressed and it's given my some confidence. Now I need to hope all the pigmentation starts to go!
