Shadow for hooded eyes

I'm looking to buy some new eyeshadows and am looking online for hooded eye tutorials for ideas. None that I've seen so far actually have hooded eyes though. They all have visible eyelids whereas my lids are slightly over my lash roots now. I always thought I'd have upper lid surgery this year (I'll hit 45) loads of friends have had great work done but due to covid that's not going to happen. I'm looking as make up, creams etc. Any tips? Can you recommend a tutorial where they actually have hooded eyes? Thank you!

I have tried some youtube videos will have a look. I gave up in the end though was hard to get right and my eyes are very hooded and i agree none were as bad as mine.
I am just today back from an appointment to do something about this, the doctor said mine were very hooded - gee thanks Grin. I am too scared for surgery so i am having something called plexr and hope it will make a big difference.
I will try and find the youtube i used.

Think i followed the wayne goss ones if that helps, but dont think he is that hooded either.

PointBreakOrBadBoys2 · 02/02/2021 18:52

Alissa Ashley has done a couple of good hooded eye tutorials.

I watched a hooded eye turorial on chloelovestoshop’s Instagram yesterday. It was quite a simple technique - I’ve tried it today and like the results (she’s right about eyeliner - I’ve always used this but am trying without today & it’s good).

Apart from Wayne Goss, Whitney Hendricks who has hooded eyes herself

grapefruitish · 03/02/2021 03:57

Thank you! I spent ages looking through and there are some good tips for properly hooded eyes if you look enough. These suggestions were great thank you. Wayne Goss does have some good tips for really hooded although some videos don't work unless you have a little bit of lid like he does. I liked his triple wet line effect, I had a bit of a play around with my make up which was quite fun, I've not done that in years. I've purchased some new shadows and liners which is a bit tricky online. I miss going into spaceNk and trying things! I think the best thing for me is still lash growth serum and curling my lashes but I feel a bit more prepared for nice make up whenever we're allowed out again! That's assuming the new colours workout...

@Humphriescushion Please post before and afters of your treatment! I know several trusted surgeons so I do think I'll just go for it when I can. I have had a few friends (most actually and several men) who have had great work and the scars are so mild and hidden in the new eye crease. It's the only procedure I've seen where I think it looks natural and I've always liked the result.

I agree @ grape about the surgery for the eyes. My friend had it done years ago and was excellent and you would have never known she had had surgery. It made such a difference. I am happy to try the plexr for now. Will not be for a while but will try to remember to post pics.

I have hooded eyes, and having a lash lift has been brilliant.

MoltonSilver · 03/02/2021 11:17

Eye make up techniques used to work when my eyes were less hooded. The lids now sit on the lashes and make up just draws attention to them. Mascara is the only eye make up I wear any more. Wearing a strong lip colour helps draw the attention away but that's not much good if youre wearing a mask. I was hoping to have the surgery this year too.

@MogOnFoxNightAgain how do I find the video by Chloelovestoshop? I like her makeup.

MogOnFoxNightAgain · 03/02/2021 13:25

@Frankinmachine - if you go on to her insta page and click on the little tv symbol (it’s the third one along, after grid and videos - symbols are above the photos) it’s the first clip on the grid (sorry, probably not explained in proper Instagram language!!).

Frankinmachine · 03/02/2021 13:31

Thanks, just found it.

So even though her eyes are no way as hooded as mine this is pretty much the shades I have gone for. Two natural, one matt and one with the slightest glow (not glitter or shine though) and a neutral darker shade. None of my lid shows like hers but on the Goss tight line video he put a highlight on the inner corner of each eye. My new products arrive tomorrow so I'm looking forward to trying them.

While sorting out my make up I found some eye tape/stickers that I bought a while ago. They are actually quite good. The problem was I liked the lifted look when they were on so much I tried to wear make up and then they peel off. If you don't wear shadow or want a lift while bare-faced in lockdown try them. I put some on today and look much fresher. Really not sure I could wear them all the time but it is really good to see the difference.

I've not tried one, is it better than curling them? I'll add it to my list to try before the surgeon!

Katie Jane Hughes on Insta does some good tutorials on hooded eyes.

Bingowin · 06/02/2021 14:14
This lady is really good. I hope the link has worked?!
grapefruitish · 06/02/2021 16:34

Thank you @Bingowin I looked like that 25 years ago. She doesn't have actual hoods that touch over her lashes so this doesn't work on an older eye. I wouldn't say I look old but these eyes are no where near the issue I now have. There's nothing for it but surgery, although I have picked up a few tips to use in the interim. Roll on 2022 and covids demise!

Bingowin · 06/02/2021 18:07

@grapefruitish yes she is young and beautiful! Still worth watching I think, especially when she shows the right way and wrong way at the same time. Amazing the difference of light/dark and how light can accentuate the bits you don’t want on show.

There must be some other older You Tuber’s out there..... if anyone finds some let us know!
