Why can't I do my own nails?

I find having a manicure the most boring way to spend 30 min or so that there is. I also don't want coloured nails, just neat tidy hands, maybe clear polish.

In theory, I know what to do, I've seen the experts do it, I've watched tutorials etc but I always end up with raged cuticle and hang nails.

Plus, everything you read about caring for your hands says never cut the cuticles, but the manicurist always do and so do the tutorials.

It doesn't matter either way though, they end up all ragged whether I trim them or just push them back (after softening)

What am I doing wrong?

What I'd really love is a man's manicure Grin but that doesn't seem to be on offer at any of the salons here, plus it still seems like something I should be able to do myself.

You might just have the wrong tools.

If you want a basic manicure you should buy some nail oil , which helps with dry skin and hang nails. A cuticle pusher to use after the oil , and some opi nail envy to brush on just to keep your nails strong.

Also , I'd stay away from nail clippers and use a glass/crystal nail file to keep them neat. A good quality one is about £10 but I've had mine for years and it's still good.

What are you trimming your cuticles with?
