Levis jeans sizes help!

Aaargh! Im getting tied up in knots trying to order myself a pair of bootcut Levis. I'm normally a size 8 jeans but of course Levis are sold by waist size. I measured my waist at 28 inches, but looking at conversion charts (and knowing American vanity sizing) I cant work out if ordering a 28 is the right thing?
Does anyone have experience of their sizes? Do they come up big or small? And do they shrink in the wash?

If you have a 28inch waist, you're a size 10. Size 8 is usually a 26 inch waist. My waist is 25 inches, and I buy 26 waist if no Lycra, to fit over my massive thighs and arse, 24 if jeans have Lycra. Levi's don't shrink, and are true to size

I'm a small 12 and wear size 29.
If it's the Levi's website I'd place a multiple order and use the free returns.

I've bought size 28 and I still can't do them up, the bastards. I'm normally a 10. I'm not sure if they come up a big small or something. I'm determined to get into them.

Yes 28 is usually a 10. I’m a 26 waist in most of my jeans.... Levi’s I recall trying a couple of different styles and the sizing varied a bit between styles and in one I tried 26 was too small and another it was too big. Worth looking at reviews and being prepared to order more than one size if you’re not sure.

I'm a size 10 and fit either a size 27 or 28 in Levi's depending on the cut and fabric.

I am a 25 inch waist and wear 26 in Levis - they fit well but could prob be a little smaller so would say true to size.

Me too - get size 26 It will be the right size

Ok I actually think I’m going to order a 27 and a 28, most jeans I think will fit end up being too big on me.

I’m an 8 in fat face, crew clothing, M&S, white stuff, white company, Joules. Most places really.

The ones without Lycra shrink. If you’re more of an hourglass shape you’ll need to size up in my experience

You'll probably need a 28 if they're non-stretch denim.

Are you sure you measured your waist properly, at the narrowest point, rather than over your belly button?
Just try the size 26, you can always return

Order the 26.

All of those shops you mentioned will come up big compared to Levi's ..

I've just bought a 30' and a 33' and 5here both to small I'm only a normal size 10 any ideas why

Because if your waist is more than 30' you aren't a size 10. Vanity sizes have skewed what we think of in terms of size. 33" is a size 14

My waist is 28" if I hold the tape quite tight, my new Levi 501s are 27" and at the loser end of my preferred fit. next time I might try a 26" pair on just to see.

I wear 28 in Levi's and am a size10.

I'm a size 10 last time I was in the levis store, the assistant tried to get me to buy a pair of jeans two sizes down , as she said they will stretch, I left empty handed, I have two pairs of levis one in a 27 that do stretch and slip down, and a size 28 which are two tight. Sorry I'm no help, just order 2 or 3 sizes to get your correct size.
