Recommend a lovely iris perfume?

Prefer big and heady. Sweeter or more floral rather than woody or green, but open to other suggestions.

Any ideas?

I recently discovered 'Soft Iris' fragrance from M&S. Absolutely love it.
I think 'Floral Street' do an iris perfume.
Also, have you watched Nadine Baggott on YouTube? She's great. A no nonsense, down to earth beauty expert - Her chats about perfume (and skincare etc etc) are fantastically informative.

Another vote for the M&S soft iris . Smells way more expensive than it is and lasts ages . Really great for an under the radar scent .

Malin52 · 28/01/2021 05:59

Prada Infusion d'iris?

StepOutOfLine · 28/01/2021 06:41

Iris will never be big and heady if you actually want the iris as a main note, because it's soft, green, fresh and soapy.
The Prada listed above is my favourite, and also my gentle comfort food perfume when you just need a fragrant hug.
Le Labo do one too
Noa by Cacharel is also soft and iris soapy.

jeremypaxo · 28/01/2021 06:42

Iris Nobile by Acqua di Parma is incredible. One of my all-time favourite perfumes.

thecatfromjapan · 28/01/2021 07:47

Have you tried the Bloom by Gucci range?

La Chase de Papillon by L'Artisan Parfumeur, too.

What perfumes do you like? If you look up the perfumes you currently live on Fragrantica, it will list their 'perfume notes' - for example, white florals, tuberose, etc.

You can then search for perfumes with the same notes.

thecatfromjapan · 28/01/2021 07:50

Agh!
So sorry. I see you want an iris perfume.
I didn't read your thread title well enough - so sorry.

udnertheradar · 28/01/2021 14:36

Frederic Malle Iris Poudre

Haffiana · 28/01/2021 15:20

Are irises big and heady, though? Scented irises tend to be subtle...

Iris scents usually use Orris which is Iris root. Personally I love it as a scent, but I would not describe it as floral, rather as vegetal. A fragrantica search for iris will yield iris root.

Can you tell us a few perfumes that you like?

PuertoVallarta · 28/01/2021 18:16

Thanks to everyone so far. I was hoping for something that smells like vintage iris flowers in bloom; sort of a grape-y, floral scent. I didn’t know iris perfumes were made from the root.

So silly because I worked in the beauty department of DFS for well over a decade. But we didn’t carry many boutique fragrances; just the blockbusters or the ones from the big distributors that they couldn’t unload anywhere else.

My favorite is Bond No. 9 Central Park West. I was hoping for something like that, except iris. Maybe I am dreaming an impossible dream.

Iris Silver Mist - Serge Lutens

Minky37 · 28/01/2021 19:26

Eau d’iris by Rochas? I’ve bought some from duty free before and some from eBay as it doesn’t seem to be widely available in the uk.

Minky37 · 28/01/2021 19:28

Sorry it’s actually called Les Cascades de Rochas Songe d’Iris.

thecatfromjapan · 28/01/2021 21:28

I'd second Iris Silver Mist. But it's very Iris, without the white florals I think you're also after.

Haffiana · 28/01/2021 22:37

Iris Silver Mist is almost pure iris root. So is Hermes Hiris and Chanel 28 Le Pausa.

A pp mentioned Iris Poudre. There is another more or less identical version of this scent that has almost no orris in it, Ferre by Gianfranco Ferre (both made by the same perfumer, Pierre Bourdon). This is the same fragrance but without the emphasis on that that cool powdery aspect. However it seems as though it has been discontinued which is a crying shame.

Iris Nobile is a floral Iris - worth a try? I don't personally rate it but it is pleasant and very popular.

Darklane · 28/01/2021 23:17

Prnhalibon’s Iris Prima

Darklane · 28/01/2021 23:17

Penhaligons

MisiaMisia · 28/01/2021 23:35

van Cleef And Arpels Bois D'Iris
Guerlain Shalimar Initial

MissBattleaxe · 29/01/2021 10:24

Perfume blogger here. Yes, iris perfumes use the root, so if you find anything with orris or iris in, it's very similar. Orris is iris root.

Floral Street Iris Goddess - you can get this in the Floral Street Discovery Set
Prada Infusion D'Iris - one of the best IMO
Strada Via Veneto - a new ncihe iris
Guerlain L'Instant de Guerlain
4160 Tuesdays Eat Flowers
LUSH Sappho
Guerlain Apres L'Ondee (if you can find it now)

LadyEloise · 29/01/2021 11:01

@PuertoVallarta
Excuse my ignorance but what is DFS ?
I thought they sold furniture Blush

MisiaMisia · 29/01/2021 17:09

I'm testing Narciso Eau de Parfum Rouge today (red square bottle) and it has a good dollop of iris making it fluffy and a bit lipsticky. Worth a test.

PuertoVallarta · 29/01/2021 21:29

@LadyEloise it’s the Duty Free Stores at the airport. I worked for Lancôme and Estée Lauder, sort of bouncing back and forth between the two.

La Pausa, Chanel
Bas de Soie, Serge Lutens
