Best cheaper mascara for fine sparse eyelashes?

I usuakly use estee lauded mascara and especially like the small wand and the fact it's smudge proof.
The only downside is that it seems to run out quickly or dry out. and I can no longer afford to buy from them.
So I'm after a cheaper alternative that has
A small wand
Doesn't smudge
So many brands seem to have HUGE wants and build up lashes!
Help?

I use the Maybelline primer followed by one of Superdrug's own (apologies for epic links). My lashes haven't looked this good since Max Factor stopped doing their brilliant S-T-R-E-T-C-H mascara and I spent fortunes on Benefit etc before I discovered this combo.
