Help! Frizzy knotty hair texture!

My hair is very fine, naturally wavy / curly, shoulder length & highlighted blonde. Last coloured & trimmed in December.
I wash & condition it alternate days with Nexxus sulphate free shampoo & conditioner for dry hair. I leave the conditioner in for 5 mins before rinsing.
I have to wash it alternate days as the roots get very greasy.

Despite that it's always been very matted at the top & mid lengths when I get out of the shower so I spray on Charles Worthington detangling & heat protection spray & leave it for a while before combing the matts out with a wide tooth comb.

I put John Freida Volumising Spray in the roots then dry the roots & mid lengths quickly with my hairdryer- the ends always dry naturally really quickly.

The mid lengths to ends are always frizzy & knot easily especially by the second day.
I've tried shine spray to smooth it down but it's left my ends feeling like nylon Sindy doll hair.

I never use a hairbrush only a widetooth comb.
So I'm trying Percy & Reed serum for fine hair on the ends from today... but does anyone have any ideas why my hair matts like this??

Btw I take various medications that could affect the hair as a side effect but I also take Perfectil Hair supplements & iron which have helped with hair growth. (I lost part of my hair in 2011 thanks to meds & it has finally regrown).

Mine seems to matt in the same place no matter how much I brush it or what shampoo or conditioner I use.

Brushing it with conditioner on with a wide tooth comb, then rinsing it with my head back so the water sort of slides down my hair seems to help a lot.

Also I plait it at night

I put mine into a loose bun at night but even that makes my hair knot up in the morning

I've now ditched the Percy & Reed serum as it's actually a volumising serum which will make the ends of my hair even worse!!

What else can I use?! I need a serum / oil for fine curly hair.

It sounds like your hair needs some serious moisture.

You need an intensive conditioner at least once a week (the garnier ones are good, and cheap!) and also a leave in conditioner. Make sure none of the products you use contain drying alcohols...they really dry the hair out and make it frizz. Also, if you need to use a comb only do it when your hair is soaked in conditioner, otherwise it will make it frizzier.

My hair is curly and prone to dryness and it hates any kind of oil. So maybe stay away from serums/oils and see if that makes a difference.

I have very similar hair - fine frizzy and knots and breaks easily, it especially gets matted from the crown down the back. I've found moisture is the key for me, I like Garnier Hair food as a leave in (avoiding the roots) and I do deep conditioners regularly, with Maui or Shea Moisture. My hair's pretty dry though so drinks it up. If your hair is more greasy some products might be too heavy, but I think the Maui brand is pretty wide, perhaps you can find something that suits your hair type?

I think a lot of the matting is damage though, I went through a phase of trimming my hair every month(!) myself to get rid of the splits and my hair is much better now. Though I think perhaps we just have that type of hair? Sad
