Alpha H causing spots?

Hi all. Started using alpha h liquid hold a couple of weeks ago. Also using the alpha h midnight serum (don’t use both products on the same day) and my skin looks awful!! I’ve got loads of spots, I very rarely get spots and I have quite a few huge painful ones now. Anyone else had this?? Spent quite a lot of money on these products!

The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid broke me out quite severely, so similar experience with an AHA, but different product. I wasn't sure if it was the Glycolic Acid or everything else in the liquid that was causing me issues. I'm using a BHA from Paula's Choice now instead. I might also buy the AHA at some point since my skin seems very happy with this range.

Thanks. Maybe I’m just not using them correctly. I don’t put moisturiser on after. Just the liquid gold then go to sleep. Maybe that might be causing it?

I'd just stop using it, to be honest. I know it's galling to spend all that money and have to discard it, but you're trying to improve your skin, not make it worse. Sunk costs, innit.

Liquid gold gave me horrendous spots! It went down the sink sadly as I was covered in pimples!

Glycolic acid doesn't agree with my skin and I end up the same, I think it disturbs my skin barrier more than things like Azelaic acid.

Alpha H brings me out in spots, as do some L'Occitane products, and the No7 Protect and Perfect range. Currently massively broken out after using a L'Occitane Divine Immortelle serum from an advent calendar. I'd bin it or give it to someone tbh. No point using it if it's just going to make your skin bad. It's frustrating when it's expensive stuff, but at least you know what doesn't work now.

I've been using Aloha Liquid Gold for a few years now. I only apply once every 2 months or so now.

It removes the top layer of dead skin so therefore any spots lurking beneath are then able to come up and purge themselves.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 25/01/2021 13:34

So persevere for a while and fingers crossed the Alpha H will start to keep skin clear now the debris is being removed regularly

MoltonSilver · 25/01/2021 16:14

You're obviously having a reaction. I doubt it's both new products causing it. I suggest you let you skin recover and then trial each of the products separately to see which one it is. I've never used the serum but the liquid gold is my all time favourite product.

MoltonSilver · 25/01/2021 16:18

I presume you're not using the liquid gold every night. Twice a week is enough.

ilovetomatoes · 25/01/2021 23:06

Thank you all! This is really helpful. I’ve got a big event this week on zoom and desperately trying to hide a massive zit on my chin!

I think I will reduce the frequency for a while. The irony is it is making my fine lines so much better. Maybe I have just been overdoing it. Will slow down and see what happens. I’ve been using the serum 2/3 times a week and the liquid gold the other alternate nights. When I write it down that does seem like a lot actually......

Hi, I used Alpha H liquid gold a couple of years ago and I came out in large red spots too after a few days and I rarely get spots either. Afterwards I tried another product that had glycolic acid and it did the same. I avoid glycolic acid in all products now.

Longpinknails · 26/01/2021 07:51

I meant to say, I started using retinol products and don't seem to have any issues with that, you might find that could help instead?
