DIY acrylic nail infills - talk me through an idiots guide please

I’ve reached the end of my tether with my acrylic nails, and can’t go any longer without doing something about them. I was due to get them infilled the first day of this lockdown so now 5 weeks since they’ve been done.

I think I’ve got 3 options

  1. Take them off (how??)
  2. File them down but they are dark red so will look horrendous
  3. DIY infill

I’ve watched YouTube videos and think I could give it a go but what do I need and where do I buy it?

Many thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Disclaimer - yes I know this is a first world problem, but this is why it’s in style & beauty.

I would take them off, I did mine last night, a few were lifting so pinged off anyway. The rest I soaked off with acetone and stuck some temp nails on.

I’ve tried to do my own before, it cost me a fortune to get the stuff, took ages and they lifted or cracked after a week!

Thank you, I was wondering if that was the easiest thing to do. God I miss nail salons being open, easy more hairdressers

I need to soak mine off too. In the summer lockdown I tried to do my own with SNS dipping powder but never really got the hang of it. I bought all the stuff but just never got the finish I wanted. I have toyed with the ideal of polygel but that would be another pretty hefty outlay. I have ordered some “brush on builder gel” from cuccio and will see how i get on with that. It’s tricky

@Lndnmummy i have also looked into polygel but like you said It’s another payout! However the stick on nails are not a success and I’ve had to glue them back on today 🙄
Builder gel is quite good, but I only got a week out of it before it peeled or fell off taking a nail with it.
Hurry up salons opening again!

I bought an electric usb nail file for £20 to get the gel polish and bulk of acrylic off mine then soaked the remainder. It came with lots of different head attachments for nail shaping and buffing in addition to the heavy duty one.
