Estée Lauder Double Wear alternatives

I've been wearing double wear for years but can't really justify paying £35 when I have to wear a mask most days for work. Has anyone switched from DW to something cheaper with good results??

Placemarking as I'd like to know this too!

BlueSussex · 23/01/2021 21:10

Nope.

Anything I tried just wasn't as good. My Doublewear lasts soooooo loooong as the coverage from a tiny amount is fantastic.

I think buying something cheaper could end up being a false economy if DW suits you. It suits me perfectly as I need the additional coverage you get with it.

Estara · 23/01/2021 21:21

I've started to use the tropic foundation after using Double wear. It's about the same price but you get the liquid foundation, illuminator/ concealer and powder + brush. So far I'm really impressed with the coverage and it feels much lighter than the double wear.

I have tried loads, nothing lasts as long on my forehead as DW
Currently using Lancolme Teint Idol, everywhere looks great apart from my forehead!

itsmymess · 23/01/2021 21:48

I've been using No7 stay perfect instead and pleased with it

Mix cheap foundation with translucent loose powder - excellent staying power!

I used to be a DW light fan but also couldn't justify the price so switched to a high street brand instead - this is excellent and I actually prefer it to DW light. www.boots.com/no7-hydraluminous-moisturising-foundation-10262468

I absolutely swear by clarins everlasting - although at £30 it's only marginally cheaper...

Floraflower3 · 24/01/2021 21:09

Nyx can’t stop won’t stop is fabulous. Full coverage, quite matte so doesn’t transfer, lots of shades and looks beautiful!

Floraflower3 · 24/01/2021 21:09

Should say it’s around 15 pounds and I think it’s actually lighter on the skin than ELDW.

Ooh watching with interest. I'd also like to move away from Double Wear.

I tried the Primark dupe once and the coverage was superb but I felt like my skin couldn't breathe - it has a plastic-ness to it! Would have been fine if I were younger but not now, I like to look a bit more natural I think.

I've also tried Laura Mercier in the past when I was in Hong Kong - it's huge over there. Really good coverage but my skin was really awful at that time and I wasn't sure if it was connected.

Have been considering trying Charlotte Tilsbury purely because of the reputation/following it has but it aint any cheaper... I've also not got anywhere to try the colours so will need to wait until Lockdown is over to go somewhere to test it out.

Would really love to find a Rimmel-type brand that was just as good as DW. NYX could be an option as our local Superdrug sells that.

lindyloo57 · 25/01/2021 17:18

@sporky how do you mix it, do just some in a dish and mix.

sporky · 25/01/2021 17:47

You can buy mixing palettes on Amazon but I do it on an old mirror and mix with the handle end of a (thin) brush Grin ....any container I guess would work.

lindyloo57 · 25/01/2021 18:52

Great, I will try this tomorrow.

Revlon colourstay.

Rufus27 · 25/01/2021 19:21

I tried a sample of Fenty’s Pro Filter foundation and it was the closest match I’ve ever found. There’s an online shade matcher too. I got a sample from EBay, but they sell it in Boots and Harvey Nicks.

Revlon colorstay here as well. I flip between this and dw alot.

Bexy1393 · 25/01/2021 19:55

Maybeline Super Stay 24 hour Foundation is amazing GrinI like it better than Double Wear!

raffegiraffe · 25/01/2021 20:01

L'Oréal infallible 24h or Revlon colour stay for oily/ combination

il0vew1ne · 26/01/2021 08:58

I use this now instead of double wear :-
Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue
Moisturizing Makeup SPF 45

Its BUILDABLE MEDIUM-TO-FULL COVERAGE, BREATHABLE, NATURAL LOOKING MAKEUP

Would definitely recommend it

CrazyBatLady66 · 26/01/2021 09:39

I second Maybelline superstay but I don’t think it’s as matte as DW. I also use Max Factor facefinity compact as I’ve found DW bit too matte on my skin now I’m in my50s and it’s got drier. Facefinity lasts all day on me with dry to normal skin but not sure how it would be on oily or combination skin.

KirstenBlest · 26/01/2021 11:23

I use the Rimmel lasting radiance one.
I've not used DW but I like Lancome Teint idole.

29ac · 26/01/2021 11:35

There isn’t anything as good, I’ve tried them all! Alternatives do last a bit longer but there’s always something that isn’t as good, whether it be shade range, how they look on the skin (loads of them look really dry and cling to all my fine lines, not what I want), lasting power, coverage vs amount you need to use. I’ve tried revlon colorstay, nyx can’t stop won’t stop, maybelline superstay, maybelline fit me matte, rimmel lasting finish, L’Oréal infallible, revolution matte base... By the time I had totted up how much I spent on alternatives that I didn’t enjoy I thought I might as well have just bought EL DW..
