Walking/outdoor trousers

GemmeFatale · 23/01/2021 19:02

I’m looking for a pair of walking/outdoor trousers. Suitable for hiking with the dog, gardening, playing outside with the toddler, etc.

Ideally a bit stylish. Comfortable and stretchy but also hard wearing. Probably skinny or slim fit so I can get my long boots over them without that horrible uncomfortable bunching.

I’ve looked at Açai and like the styling but the reviews suggest the fabric bobbles easily. I’d also prefer a lower price point, but for the perfect thing they’re probably my top end.

Please help!

Have you looked at climbing / hiking / running leggings? I've got some really nice ones with pockets (one is zipped) for keys and phone. Were about £50. Mountain Equipment Sonica Tight. I prefer to hike in leggings.

I have several pairs of walking trousers and like the ones I have from Craghoppers (from the Sportpersuit website). They're half the price of those Acia ones and similar style. They come up big so order a size down. There are loads of options on Sportpersuit. I aldo have water resistent ones which are good too (actual waterproof ones are annoying because they make a rustling noise!).

I'm surprised that people are saying Acai trousers bobble. The fabric of the max stretch trousers is smooth and slippery, there isn't really anything to bobble. Maybe worth trying them for yourself?

I have these, bought them this year, warm, wind and waterpoof. I think they're fab

Craghoppers Kiwi Pro. I have 3 pairs in different colours and wear a pair pretty much every day. They have a bit of stretch and are comfortable, flattering and a bit water-repellant.

Are the kiwis and the decathlon ones trousers as opposed to leggings? I really can't bear the way most walking trousers flap around your legs, much prefer a legging style.

NotMeNoNo · 23/01/2021 23:21

Regatta do a couple of styles of slim trousers, Pentre is one. I can't bear the flapping ankles either. I'm not a brand snob for trousers because slim fit ones are so hard to find.

Rab with articulated knees if you area keen Walker.

MakeMineALarge1 · 24/01/2021 03:44

It is a trouser, but it has a pressstud so tou can tighten the ankle.
You can order and try on.
Decathlon are great for returns.

Thanks very much. I've gone over to just wearing leggings for walking, but I wonder if Decathlon have some perhaps.
NotMeNoNo · 24/01/2021 11:23

If you filter by "softshell trousers" on say Go Outdoors, it brings up a few more fitted styles.

GemmeFatale · 24/01/2021 14:05

Thanks all. Lots of suggestions to work through there.

Leggings aren’t a complete no but I think I’d prefer a proper trouser.

Decathlon don’t have anything that quite fits my criteria (picky).

As a couple of you have noted the flappy trousers drive me nuts so it has to be at least slim, ideally skinny in cut.

I’ve got the Acai ones and can’t imagine they’d bobble - they’re a smooth slightly shiny material. Maybe it’s some of their other products that bobble (like the thermal leggings?) I really like the Acai ones - they’re simple and stylish enough and mine have worn really well.

GemmeFatale · 24/01/2021 15:54

@PBJelly that’s interesting to hear. It’s the mid weight stretchy ones I’m looking at (although currently out of stock in my size/colour anyway). I might give them a go when they reappear unless I find anything else in the meantime

Yes, that what I'd said above. There's nothing to bobble is there, the fabric is too smooth. I've got the ones you want OP. They definitely haven't bobbled .
BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 24/01/2021 21:41

I have a couple of pairs of Açai trousers. No bobbling! I love them!

Splodgetastic · 24/01/2021 21:47

I have some Rohan waterproof trousers that are nice and warm but I can’t pretend they are stylish. They do have some nice Arctic jeans though that are supposed to be warm.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 25/01/2021 19:39

I love Acai. I wear my max stretch black thermals all the time, I'm into my third winter with them still going strong. No bobbling! I've also got a pair of the non-thermal version which I love too. Not as keen on the mid weights though, just didn't find them as comfy as the others, probably because the fabric didn't have as much give.

LaPampa · 26/01/2021 11:56

None of my açai trousers have bobbled although I did speak to customer service and they say some people have had issues - but they’d refund if I had an issue (I haven’t). I’ve got the thermal skinny trousers, mid weight stretch and thermal base layers and all ace. I’ve also got the thermal leggings on order for cycling with the kids but I had to send back a pair of Sherpa leggings which sounded a similar spec but I couldn’t even bend my knees.

LegendDairy · 26/01/2021 13:09

My Acai trousers do bobble and the stitching has come loose in so many places. Most of the rear pocket has come off and I've had to re-sew it back on.

BeautifulBirds · 26/01/2021 13:19

Cragghoppers, all day long. Plus there is a sale on atm too!!

likeamillpond · 26/01/2021 13:58

Is there anywhere I can try Acai wallkng trousers on? Im ususlly a size 12 but have a small waist.
Or are they purely online?

ElspethFlashman · 26/01/2021 14:57

As an alternative to those mentioned above, I have a lined pair from Uniqlo that I have absolutely lived in this winter.

They have absolutely loads of HeatTech trousers on their site and some are very slim.

Flatoutonsofa · 07/02/2021 20:57

Rohan troggings. Not especially stylish but very practical and good quality. Easy to wash and dry. I recently bought two pairs and I live in them.
