Nice clothes but never wear them - changing mindset

Hi

I was wondering if anyone else has lovely clothes which they never wear?

I have been on a few wardrobe clear out and capsule wardrobe type threads recently which has motivated me to sort things out and this has made me realise I actually have a lot of nice clothes. My problem is I have some kind of psychological block about wearing them and end up wearing the same old things.

Has anyone had this same issue and resolved it? I don't think it helps that I am working from home and now the schools are shut also have 2 kids at home. Also about to give birth so most of it doesn't fit at the moment but want to try and start wearing the nice stuff as soon as it fits.

Thanks 😊

@Darklane I either give to charity shops if I can afford to. Otherwise I make up outfits and photograph them. When I've got a large carrier bag full I advertise on Facebook sales pages £10 cash on collection for the whole bag, including all the photos in the ad so people can see what they're getting. I can't be bothered with eBay for selling clothes. Same with shoes, but sell each pair separately £5. None of my stuff is expensive designer clothes though. If stuff doesn't sell its donated. I can't be bothered with the hassle of people coming to my home for less than £5. The sales pages is pretty much the whole reason I have Facebook.

It's the keeping things for Sunday best mentality that we've got & covid-19 has highlighted how problematic this is.

I've got a beautiful pure silk Reiss scarf and two 'posh' coats which I've worn a handful of times. I've resolved that from Monday, I will dress smart casual for wfh & wear my scarf. If I don't all my nice dresses etc will just sit unworn hanging up on the wardrobe for another year.

I'm about to start my cleaning.. in a dress. I don't care if things get damaged, mostly they don't and come up fine in the wash. I've come to the conclusion that clothes are for wearing and enjoying. If I feel like wearing a dress I'll wear a dress. If I bought only things to suit my lifestyle I'd own nothing but jeans and jumpers and pyjamas.

This is s such an interesting thread. I do this and I’ve been considering why all day (lockdown) and I think there are a couple of other things going on. I don’t like throwing things away or donating unless they are knackered or in good condition so it takes a long time for things I quite like to reach the recycling pile. Also I do worry about not being able to afford nice things again.. it’s unlikely this will happen but I do worry about it!

WFH during the first lockdown and wore my lovely clothes. This time round I'm back WFH and I'm just trying to keep warm so it's very dull leggings and tunics. I love clothes and I am soooo bored!
