I'm looking for a smart coat, preferably black or a dark shade.

I'm REALLY skint at the moment so it needs to be really cheap. I'm large - size 22. I like Monsoon and Boden and the better quality brands, but can't afford them!

This is only just over £40 in the M&S sale. What do you think of it?

Can anyone recommend a good sale?

Sorry about your friend.

If you don't have the money upfront to order, try on and send back, you could order from shops that accept Klarna? I use it a lot, you pay after your order has arrived and if you are returning anything you can pause the payment while the return is in progress. So the money only leafed your account for the one you keep. Has been a godsend for ordering kids shoes in the pandemic! I order four or five pairs, they try them on, and I send back all but one pair and only pay for that.

Have you tried ebay @fastwigglylines
I got a beautiful Hobbs wool coat there for about £40 last year. I stroke it.

Unfortunately I think I've left it too late for eBay, I need to order something that's guaranteed to turn up quickly.

Envy at your strokable wool coat! I'd love one of those!

@PresentingPercy

You will struggle to get wool for under £100. These are all M&S and in your size. All look ok to me for the money.
I like the grey one, plus it looks warm! Do you think it'd work without the belt?

Damn! I forgot to put the size filter on!

PSA for women not nearly as large as me - John Lewis have some excellent bargains in the sale right now!

But not in my size unfortunately...

If you're really skint OP I wouldn't buy a coat specifically for a funeral. I'm sure your friend wouldn't want you to spend your money in that way. I've seen people wearing all sorts at funerals, nobody minds.

Happymum12345 · 21/01/2021 00:40

I really like the first coat. It’s more of a classic and will hopefully stand the test of time.

Thanks, that's really thoughtful of you. I do actually need a coat, though!

I've put on weight since last year and I only have one coat that fits me. Typically for me, I've left it till I really need one to buy it, and am now doing it in a panic, instead of having the luxury of being able to take my time and get what I really want (RickOShay's coat!)

The coat I have at home is a bit "out there" and not really suitable for a funeral (or the school run, come to think of it. Or anything else I might want to do when lockdown lifts - except going out at the weekend - anyone remember that?!).

Hmm, maybe I should try it on with the dress just in case, though...

I like it too. I've narrowed it down to these two, I think.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend and hope that the funeral goes well (for want of a more fitting expression). And That's a really nice coat you've chosen, lots of the others are too.

Have you ever tried Amazon Wardrobe? If
not for this occasion, it's worth bearing in mind for future purchases as you order the items you like (often on Prime so delivered next day). You then have 14 days to either pay for them, or return them. I have found the quality to be good - some of the clothes are ex-high street/known brand names and others are ones I've not heard of, but the quality has been good on them all.

Out of the two you shortlisted above though the first one is by far a nicer looking coat by my eye.

Hellofayearsofar · 21/01/2021 01:16

ASOS have some lovely on s in your size in the sale. I think you'd get a lot of use out of this one

I love that grey one. The black is too straight for a curvy figure, imo - love the shape of the grey and think you could wear it done up or undone and both would look great. Also less severe than black says me, the owner of 3 black coats and will see you right for autumn and cold Spring days.

ILoveShula · 21/01/2021 10:02

The first one is better.
Double breasted makes me look twice as wide.

The M&S ones are really nice.

Mumdiva99 · 21/01/2021 10:04

Apologies i missed that it was fir a funeral. Sorry for your loss. I also agree your friend would be happy whatever you wear so please don't make a rush purchase.

But if the last 2 you posted I prefer the button one (second one). It looks warmer and better in the cold.

I hope it goes as well as a funeral can go.

PresentingPercy · 21/01/2021 10:22

You don’t really need to wear black at funerals now so please buy a coat that suits you and you will get wear from. Any camel, grey, blue or beige coat is fine. Just pair with black accessories. I’m sorry about the funeral.
