Hair doesn't lift with bleach anymore

I have been going to a lovely hairdresser for 1 year now for half head of highlights.

It usually looks good for the first week or so. But by week 4, it looks completely grown out and so so dark. It isn't that the roots are showing- I totally get that hair grows out... (Been having highlights 16 years) but I feel like I have a dark halo...

(It can't possibly grow out that fast- 3 inches or so!)

Could it be because the bleach she is using is a very low %? Or perhaps she just isn't putting enough in? (She says she puts in the equivalent of a half head, just on the top portion of my hair, as I always request more. I don't like sparse highlights)

I'm sad, as I really enjoy going to her. But for the last 3 appointments, I have asked to go much brighter. (As I feel so dark 3-4 weeks later)

Why do I have a dark halo? Perhaps it's just technique?

This photo is how my hair has always looked for years. So much brighter and never seemed to get the dark halo...

She needs to up the strength! I have the same issue but always have, I use blue shampoo every wash (after usual shampoo) and it helps brighten it. But the other pic shows yours is able to get brighter.

I should note. The first photo I posted is 4 weeks after my appointment 😕

Ok do you mean she needs to stretch the bleach down a bit further?

I don't want to tell her how to do her job at all.

It looks nice and is the fashion for ombré / darker roots, but if it's not what you want then ask her for stronger bleach mix.

Or find a new hairdresser. I had similar from a pricey hairdresser but my cheap local mobile one gets it lovely and bright and light.

She should pack the highlights closer together too, they do look v scattered which stops a blocky root regrowth line. But strength I think is the main issue here.

Definitely doesn't look like half head highlights OP Sad Time to find a new hairdresser

Nearlytherenext · 18/01/2021 22:45

Ah I'm so sad. She's lovely and she packs them so close together.
She says that she puts the equivalent of a full head of highlights in just my top section as I always request them to be as dense as possible.

Your 2st pic was taken indoors so I wonder if that’s not
a true gauge op?
Indoors my my hair colour depresses me no end recently after
changing my hair dye brand. But when I catch sight of myself
on the Ring doorbell camera outside my hair colour looks much
lighter and more like the colour I wanted.
It’s weird because it’s never happened before in all the donkey’s
years of dying my hair.

You are right. Perhaps not a fair test.

But over the last 15 odd years of having highlights, I never really noticed this dark halo effect
