Any advice on starting a vintage wardrobe? 👗

Hiya! I've name changed as I always do that when I start a thread (not sure why Grin).

I've always really loved the fashion of the 50s / 60s and over time have invested in a few pieces, but now I'm really keen to have a full vintage wardrobe. I shied away from it before as it's not especially typical of where I live / the generation I'm part of, but I always feel better when I look like I've stepped out of a time machine!

Attached a few photos references of the the things I like. I'm a slightly chubby hourglass girl on a budget (size 12-14 mostly) but if you have any tips I would really appreciate them! I'm also thinking vintage inspired as true vintage would probably ruin my credit score! Thank you 💌

Thank you for those suggestions, @Baskethandle, I don't have a Facebook account but I'm sure I'll be able to find a way to have a peek through their merchandise! I noticed you said you run a vintage clothing business, if you would like to do a little bit of shameless self promo that would be absolutely fine 😉

I have bought a few very loosely vintage base pieces from Shein as they were very cheap and a pleasant place to start. I know purchasing from them is ethically immoral, I'll need to find a way to repent somehow 😁 Debating selling some of my current clothes on eBay to make some room but it's such a faff!

** still looking though, my quest for vintage clothing is far from over! 😁

I was looking on Amazon last night and Wellwits dresses look lovely. I stumbled across one then searched "Wellwits" and loads came up. Looking at the reviews I think the quality is variable but they look the part and seem very reasonable? Might be worth a look?

fauxvintage · 15/01/2021 11:51

I actually have this exact Wellwits dress, @Tryingtogetitright! Great minds think alike Grin Bought it quite a while ago though, as you can probably predict it's not necessarily my current style!

They do have some lovely high quality pieces. I'm just trying to get used to buying a smaller amount of more expensive things, I think I (unfortunately) have a maximalist nature 🤑

There's a few gorgeous ones for around the £14 mark -think these:

www.amazon.co.uk/Wellwits-Womens-Button-Collar-Vintage/dp/B07VPPYV83/ref=sr_1_54?dchild=1&keywords=wellwits&th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1610711143&sr=8-54

www.amazon.co.uk/Wellwits-Womens-Stripes-Button-Vintage/dp/B07VGYC1PX/ref=sr_1_59?dchild=1&keywords=wellwits&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1610711143&sr=8-59

www.amazon.co.uk/Wellwits-Womens-Sleeves-Sailor-Vintage/dp/B07V383MK6/ref=sr_1_76?dchild=1&keywords=wellwits&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1610711143&sr=8-76

But very mixed reviews! And if I bought from Shein and Amazon within the space of 24 hours I'd be selling my soul to the consumerist devil I think 😁

Sugar, won't let me post the photo but I bought this dress from them a while back 😁 www.amazon.co.uk/Wellwits-Embroidery-Keyhole-Vintage-Cocktail/dp/B07PG8CF9K/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&s=instant-video&keywords=wellwits&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1610711602&sr=1-6

I know what you mean!... Amazon is my guilty addiction... can't wait til we can start browsing in bricks and mortar shops again. I really miss feeling fabrics and try things on.

fauxvintage · 15/01/2021 11:58

Oh I know Trying! I'm just thinking of the wave of more charity shop stock that will happen when we leave lockdown! I'm gonna be the first in the door 😁

Your dress is lovely! Love the three you linked to too. Not the right style but I love this dress www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0894PXT24/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5myaGbH5SE0AH?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Tryingtogetitright · 15/01/2021 12:06

I can't wait for a good charity shop rummage!

fauxvintage · 15/01/2021 12:06

Anything at all that's yellowy mustard, I adore 😍
This is also lovely - different brand and strange pricing (£3? Surely not!) but I think my style is getting progressively more "prairie mum" along with vintage housewife 🤣

@Stealthynamechange Glad to help - I adore Collectif but can't justify buying it full price so I'm always watching beadily for sales! Smile

LesCuriousCat · 15/01/2021 19:23

Sorry if it's already been said but check out Collectif - fairly pricey but they currently have their winter sale on - 50% off most items.
