Hair Colour Advice for Frustrated 55 Year Old

I've always had highlights but have found over the last few years that my hair is getting drier and as a consequence, frizzy, which I hate. I've tried every product known to woman but nothing seems to work anymore, although a hot brush tames it slightly. I have fine hair, but lots of it, which doesn't help. I'm also growing it below my shoulders as with a bit of weight, it pulls it down, rather than springing outwards like a fuzz ball. I've decided to stop having highlights for now - made easier by lock-down - as I just don't think I can take bleach anymore - and see how I get on with my own, long-forgotten colour of mousey brown, now flecked with occasional grey. I've loved being blonde and have always felt dull during any attempt over the years to go darker, but maybe now is the time to bite the bullet. I am learning to like the silver colour around my face but it only accounts for less than 10% of my overall colour. I quite like the idea of a few white highlights just around the front to accompany the silver bits, but wonder if it would look too much of a contrast. I wonder if anyone else is having similar problems with their hair and could give some advice please.
