Bralettes?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/01/2021 21:51

I could do with some new bras, but as I’m working from home until at least August and wondered about trying bralettes instead. Any advice on where to get them?

I’m 32D, size 10, and usually get bras from Freya/Fantasie. I’d rather not spend those prices if possible, and would prefer black. I had a look at M&S but nothing really floated my boat and the reviews mainly said they rolled up at the bottom which I don’t fancy.

I'm a similar size to you 30DD and found bralets gave me aches as they don't support the weight too evenly.

Not ideal at the moment but the best bras I've found were Debenhams own brand!

Zeldaaa · 13/01/2021 21:57

Maybe not the right price point, but I I’ve been living in Cosabella never say never bralets. You can sometimes get them cheaper on Amazon

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/01/2021 22:03

That is helpful, purple - I did wonder if they were more for flatter chests.

Those look lovely, zeldaaa but I really wanted to pay a bit less since it’s an experiment. I’d be happy to invest if I knew it was something I’d like to wear regularly.

I like Sloggi Zero Feel but they are about £30. They are the comfiest bralettes I have tried. The only problem is the shoulder straps are not adjustable so the straps slip off my shoulders quite a bit - fine if the bra is freshly washed and the fabric is tighter (if that makes sense) but worn again the straps are too slack. I need to see if I can cut and sew them to make them shorter.

On the cheaper end of the spectrum I also really rate Primark bralettes and crop top/light sports bras. When I first wanted to try to transition from underwires to bralettes I bought these first as didn’t want to waste money if I wasn’t keen. Several years ago now and not looked back!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/01/2021 22:35

Primark is probably a better price point for trial - happy to pay more if I know they are the right choice. Shame Primark is not online!

@Judystilldreamsofhorses It is a shame! I’m not a huge fan of Primark but I love their bralettes! I could do with some more but the nearest one to me is an hour away. Plus lockdown. I saw on another thread quite a few people had said Matalan had some good bralettes, maybe worth a look.

buttonsand · 14/01/2021 01:06

I've just got a few from Gilly Hicks and they're amazing I'm a similar size to you and the halter neck ones are great. I also recommend primark and tk max have a few great ones. I love the DKNY ones I got from there.

ParkheadParadise · 14/01/2021 01:15

Asda, I have several in different colours and designs. You can order online.

Luckingfovely · 14/01/2021 01:18

Not helpful right now as Primark - but I wear their yoga bras - like bralettes, soft but supportive enough. They come in a two-pack and are super cheap but wash well.

Luckingfovely · 14/01/2021 01:20

In general - for your cup size - I think searching online for yoga bras will probably get you to where you want to be while the shops are shut Smile

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2021 11:13

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I did have a look at Matalan but the ones that looked okay were padded which I don't like. I'll have a look at ASDA, I wouldn't have thought of there, and will also get searching yoga bras.

I read this morning that Primark are set to make a massive loss due to lockdown and not having any online option for sales.

I got some recently in Figleaves sale (also got matching pants in 3 for 2 offer).

I'm not big-boobed but found them really comfortable

tofuschnitzel · 14/01/2021 12:04

I've been wearing wireless bras from Primark for the past six months or so, the 3 for £10 ones. I am the same size as you, OP. At first I thought I would only wear them at home, but they give me a surprisingly nice shape, and I am happy to wear them pretty much full time now. They were a godsend in the heatwave last summer! Wearing an underwired bra was so uncomfortable in the heat, so that helped to prompt my switch to wireless. I think Tu by Sainsbury's sell similar styles to the Primark ones, have you looked there?

tofuschnitzel · 14/01/2021 12:09

Just to add, the wireless bras I have from Primark do have padding, but there is a little slit at the side of each cup so you can take them out if you wish.

jenniuol · 14/01/2021 12:30

Agree primark and Asda. I like the padding but it’s removable if you don’t. Obviously no primark just now but I got a 3 pack from Asda recently for £18. Primark I’m sure is usually £10 for 3. I’m size 10-12, bra size 30D/32C and wear a small from both. Comfiest things ever, I will never go back to underwires Grin

BigTallyWacker · 14/01/2021 12:37

I’m a 32g and have these from Asda. They’re fab and perfect for around the house. I wouldn’t want to run for a bus in them but they are supportive enough otherwise. They don’t ride up, are supportive and have removable pads.

Mominatrix · 14/01/2021 13:00

I’m a 30C and have converted on only wearing bralettes. I love the ones by love story (lovestoriesintimates.com/en/bralettes/). You probably be a 1+ there.

Spodge · 14/01/2021 16:06

Another vote for the Sloggi Zero Feel, though they are not the cheapest. I'm 32DD and find them supportive enough and very comfortable. They don't do anything for my figure, though.

TickleMyTitsTilFriday · 15/01/2021 07:06

I have a couple from Tesco, really soft and stretchy and cheap!

YourWurstNightmare · 15/01/2021 07:32

H&M usually have cheap ones.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/01/2021 09:50

Thank you all for the suggestions - the Sloggi ones look like a good shout, but a bit more ££ than I want to pay for a trial run. I like the look of some of the H&M ones so might order a few from there to see, then see how I get on.

It would be much easier if things didn't come in packs with colours I would never wear! I just want plain black!

Thank you all again, it's been really helpful.
