Jeans - avoiding MC Hammer crotch

Have ordered some jeans in the sales, given in and gone for the bigger size to accommodate some lockdown chub. However, they seem a little higher waisted than I'm used to, and I'm VERY short waisted..literally boobs/waist. So tried them on, quite pleased, no muffin top etc. Cut off labels.5 mins later I realise aaagggh there is loads of excess material in the crotch! And it's uncomfortable. I think because they can't get high enough, they hang down, go baggy and weird.
Is it just me? Or can anyone else with a short body empathise? Or offer suggestions for better cut jeans?

ps, I'm short waisted as well so I feel your pain.

I'm the opposite. Long waisted so everything digs in at the crotch! Sorry .... no help at all!

I've got similar with a pair I ordered recently from topshop, the same Jamie jeans that I always buy. I'm sure I had similar with my older ones when I first bought them. They're now too tight!

I'm going to try putting them through the machine at 90 a couple of times to see if it shrinks them a bit!
