A chunky cardigan...

I’m on the hunt for the perfect chunky knit cardigan but not having much luck. Has anyone seen anything:

Not cropped but not thigh length, somewhere in between - hip length?

Not fitted, to be worn open over a T-shirt with jeans.

Chunky knit - could be cable knit or just thick but not crochet effect.

Ideally navy.

Max £50ish. The Outnet has the perfect one but it’s £150 and can’t really justify that on a cardie right now.

Post a link to the one you like please.

have you checked ebay?

H&m is pretty good for knitwear and also sainsburies

I can’t find the exact one I meant, must have sold out but this one is similar. Maybe a touch shorter than I would like but I’d go shorter rather than longer.

I’m a bit suspicious of H&M knitwear; I bought three jumpers at the same time last year, one is unwearably rough and bobbly, one is rapidly heading that way and one is absolutely fine. Supposedly all made of the same stuff and all washed the same! I’ll keep an eye on there though, I like their eco range.

I've just ordered a couple of things from Bon Prix as someone recommended them. Cheap and seem well made.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I’ve actually gone back and forth putting the grey M&S one in my basket but keep deciding that I’m after something a bit longer and generally more voluminous.

This one - www.bonprix.co.uk/products/ajour-knit-cardigan/_/A-906405_6?PFM_rsn=browse&PFM_ref=true&PFM_psp=own&PFM_lpn=30 is very close but I’d rather spend a bit more on something not 100% acrylic.

I find that all acrylic is not the same. I have always been happy with acrylic from M&S in that it looks good and washes well. I know it is not wool but it doesn't look crap.

I'd look at Tu and Uniqlo.

This one is nice

So many nice cardigans.

MassDebate · 11/01/2021 17:57

Can you get away with kids’ sizing? This one from Scotch & Soda looks good (I sometimes buy kids age 14 or 16 clothes but I’m petite, so it depends on your size).

This Abercrombie men’s one is also nice shawl collar cardie

thecatfromjapan · 11/01/2021 18:33

Have you looked at the andotherstories website?

yaboo · 12/01/2021 00:16

at those prices, have both!

Pr1mr0se · 21/01/2021 20:12

aranislandsknitwear.com/product-category/ladies/cardigans/

They have styles which are either properly on hips (not cropped) or below, both zip or button styles too.

Whatthebloodyell · 21/01/2021 20:17

I like the look of monki cardigans. But I can’t work out if they are shipping from abroad or not, and if you have to pay customs charges ?

Otherplans · 21/01/2021 20:20

I want to know this about monki too!

Incunabula · 21/01/2021 20:33

What about this? Woolovers can veer into dangerously mumsy territory but this one is quite a classic design: www.woolovers.com/womens/cardigan/womens-pure-wool-easy-fit-cardigan-blue-17227

MadameButterface · 21/01/2021 20:36

Monki do ship to the uk yes (i have a monki habit that is out of control)

Otherplans · 21/01/2021 20:48

Are they shipping within the UK or into the UK from mainland Europe? My concern is being stung for customs (again) due to brexit.

MadameButterface · 21/01/2021 20:53

Ah shite they ship from Europe. My last order was dec 30th, so I don’t know 😩😩😩 i’ll be raging if so

Iamonlyme · 21/01/2021 21:14

ASOS stock alot of Monki

InspectorAlleyn · 21/01/2021 21:23

I’ve done a recent Monki order and there was no customs charge.

Lovely knitwear and I already have my eye on some other bits!

Gorse · 21/01/2021 21:59

Ok, don't laugh, but Damart have a pretty big selection of cardigans, not all acrylic, some recycled materials, some mixes with wool. Not all their stuff is mumsy. What attracted me was the longer lengths (given up buying sweaters and cardigans from M & S because they're mostly too short, not to mention sizing is unreliable) also Damart very often put POCKETS on their cardigans!
My first catalogue arrived, unbidden, the same day I received my first pension payment (Hmm) and I threw it out in disgust. Here we are a couple of years later and I'm hooked on jumpers that cover my rear end and sizes that are what they say they are.

Otherplans · 21/01/2021 22:52

I've had some great damart pure wool charity shop finds in my youth.
I ended up watching The Good Life yesterday and thinking what great cardigans Margot had. Oversized and draped.

MrsBa · 21/01/2021 23:01

I like the look of some of the Bon prix jumpers, but the sizes are not good, they have 10/12 or 14/16 Where I need a 12/14
