Trainers for walking? (That aren’t walking trainers.)

Any recommendations for trainers for walking, please? Not huge distances, an average of five miles a day*. I really don’t want proper walking trainers if at all possible.

Have been wearing Skechers but they don’t seem to be offering enough support and are making my ankle ache.

Thanks!

*Walking to work, before anyone calls the lockdown police.

Sketchers did my feet in as well - I bought a pair for a holiday with a lot of city walking and came back with planar fasciitis Sad

A brand that works well for me is Geox Nebula. www.geox.com/en-GB/woman/shoes/nebula%E2%84%A2/

(I just saw there's a load of reduced styles as well - I'm off to stock up!)

Nike for me all the way. Something this shape/style www.nike.com/gb/t/venture-runner-shoe-6SNxfW/CK2948-001

I walked a lot in the last year 8 miles a day with a pram in the summer and this style were the best for me, no rubbing or blisters just complete comfort.

SummaLuvin · 10/01/2021 16:37

I wear my Nike Revolutions all the time and they are so comfy and lightweight, but I have never had ankle problems so I can't say if they would give you the required support.

I got a pair of allbirds for Christmas and they are the comfiest pair of shoes I’ve ever owned! And like walking on air!

I have fibromyalgia so if I walk too far without the right shoes on I can ache for days. My favourite trainers ever are the fila disruptors. Not everyone's cup of tea I believe but I bloody love them.

Thank you, a few to have a look at, although I think the allbirds will be over budget, unfortunately.

I am so tempted by Allbirds! Might buy some this year, although, I have a few pairs of trainers, so can't really justify it.

Yorensnow · 10/01/2021 18:53

New Balance trainers are so comfy and lightweight. I'm on my feet a lot with work and never have any aches or pains.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 10/01/2021 19:00

I always wore trainers for walking but found my ankles hurt and got flat feet as no arch support so I wear my next biker boots now.

Orf1abc · 10/01/2021 19:08

If you struggle with Skechers you'll struggle with Allbirds. They are beautifully soft but are lacking in support the same way that Skechers are. I was tempted to keep them just to bounce around the house in!

yearinyearout · 10/01/2021 19:14

I have Adidas trail running shoes, I don't run in them tho! They're lightweight and very comfy.

Randomrebel · 10/01/2021 19:16

Those of you who are saying Allbirds are they worth the money, do they have a supportive sole or are they very soft like Sketchers and is their much cushioning in the heel area please?

QuentinInQuarantino · 10/01/2021 19:17

My mum just bought air max nike for walking around and loves them! They look very cool and I'm jealous!

TornadoOfSouls · 10/01/2021 19:20

I’m a New Balance lover, but you have to check the sizing carefully.

I have a pair and love them for being soft, cosy and natural but I don't find them especially supportive. Better than Sketchers definitely, but not as supportive as my Nebulas or Fitflops.
Freewheelingoryx · 10/01/2021 19:53

Have a look at Vionic op.

I like New Balance too.

ParisJeTAime · 10/01/2021 19:54

Ah that's a shame re support in Allbirds. I have a couple of pairs of Fitflop trainers and they are my favourites. They're supportive but not so thick I can't drive in them. Not that I'm driving anywhere at the moment anyway, but you know.

Gliblet · 10/01/2021 20:13

I buy army surplus trainers from Becketts. Not particularly stylish but good quality and only £15 odd.

LlamaofDrama · 10/01/2021 21:28

I bought a pair of Fit Flop trainers a couple of years ago, because in on my 4th pair of the flip flops and they are the most comfortable ever. I love the trainers, they are now on my must be replaced list for when they die, which hopefully is a good way off. I walk miles in them.

bizzy1234 · 10/01/2021 21:37

I have plantar fasciitis so am constantly in search of a comfortable shoe/trainer..
I have found that my Stan smiths with a cushioned insole from scholl are the most comfortable.
If you don't want to buy extra insoles I find fit flops do comfortable trainers too and they have got a good sale on now but for me they come up half a size too big so I find a 5.5 fits for my size 6 feet.

Annebronte · 10/01/2021 22:37

I find ASICS trainers best gif support. If you need arch support, the gel kayano (might not be how you spell it!) are v good. Recommended by my physio.

Mbear · 10/01/2021 22:46

It would be worth getting a gait analysis from a running shop for that amount of walking.
I needed supportive trainers for running and I do for walking as well (also do that amount a day as well). Also don’t forget how often you need to replace them as well - even just walking.
