Grenson or Brora?

I’m in the market for a new pair of boots. It’s a toss up between these two pairs.

The Brora pair is winning currently because they’re over £100 cheaper and have a side zip. What do we think?

I think I prefer the Brora ones - I reckon they walk a nicer line between sexy hiking boots and cool-girl DMs.

Nanettes! I am biased because I own some. Granted, you do have to properly sit down and hoik yourself into them

The construction is excellent, and I say that as a former women's footwear buyer.

I prefer Brora.

I'd keep an eye on the actual Grenson site as almost everything ends up in the sale eventually!

Much prefer the Brora looks wise, but never had shoes from either company.

Brora are better looking

What size are you? Will you size up for socks? The Brora look a bit clowny in the toe, is it reinforced? I ordered some boots with this sort of toe and felt like I was tripping over myself. The eyelets are not too shiny which I like, greater versatility.

The Nanettes get round this look by having the laces and shorter toe cap. Leather looks better. Overall a shinier look though. Tread and comfort looks excellent. You can get all kind of coloured laces on Etsy if that is your thing.

Ohh, that's a toughie, I like them both. At a push the Grenson because I'm rather drawn to the suede panels.

The Brora are really nice.

I don't like the Nanettes at all.

From the pic I prefer the look of the Broras. However I think of them as knitwear specialists and, if I was paying that amount of money, I'd rather give my business to an actual a shoemaker like Grenson. I'm also not keen on boots that have both laces and a zip (Brora) - unnecessary and I think it's inviting leaks.

My thinking exactly about Grenson @Floisme. But I disagree about the zip, I’m a lazy bugger and the thought of all that lacing up puts me off. I’m still not sure either and I don’t think seeing them in the flesh would help much. I might have to order both and see if comfort decides it.

I prefer the shape and look of the Grenson but I think there are nicer colorways of the Nanette! I’d go for the plain black, I’m not sure about the suede (?) panel.

Biased as I have a pair of nanettes, so definitely grenson for me. Look on the grenson site, theres a sale on right now. I haven't seen those in it but some others may take your fancy at a better price.

I have grenson Brooke in navy ( from the sale) they are the most beautiful and immediately comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. I have also had brora footwear - it is really good but not as good as grenson. The lack of zip on grenson though is a right pain

I have the Grenson Nanette’s too and I absolutely adore them. I don’t find the lacing that much of a pain. The laces are quite stretchy and I find I don’t have to undo much of the lacing at all to get on and off.

Brora always have a great sale. I once got a pair of Penelope Chilvers boots for £40. I'd wait for a couple of weeks, the Brora sale is always one of the last to start.

I’d choose the Grenson because I have some on the way . I got a black snake pair in the sale directly for £143- they were OOS but I checked late one night and there was a pair in my size back in stock.

I like the Brora but they’re more DM in style and I already have a pair of those.

You’ve just clinched it @ExConstance! I was veering towards the Brora ones because of the zip and I quite like the red detail too. I’ll wait until they’re reduced and buy them then. £40 for Penelope Chilvers - what a result!

The Brora sale started yesterday, though, so if they're not already reduced....

Just to throw in another choice, and they're out of stock at the moment but keep checking as they do have returns - I bought these yesterday and they're brilliant - very very soft leather, really comfortable:

I had the Nanettes a few years ago and returned because they really cut into my legs. Haven't tried the Brora boots - but I see the grey suede version is already on sale

Thanks @faustina. The grey suede are beautiful but impractical, I want workhorses! The and/or are nice but I’ve decided a zip is essential.
