Has anyone else fully embraced the grey but then reneged on it? Or is it just me?!

I was even one of those irritating evangelical types on here about it 🤐 and for a while I did love it but then the colour and texture of my grey changed as it grew out and I started looking more and more like Roberta Sparrow from Donnie Darko when I didn't have a full face of makeup on.

It's the lack of contrast that was the problem I think. I'm pale with celtic cool colouring (dark natural hair, blue eyes) and there was just not enough contrast between my mush and my hair. I definitely looked older (was 36 when I went grey, 40 now).

Since going back to dyeing I've felt so much happier and more confident and my hair now reflects my personality/sense of style far more than the grey did. I do feel that I've let the side down a bit though esp from a feminist pov. Social conditioning is a bitch eh 😟.

Anyone else?

You both have gorgeous hair. I have jet black hair and was thinking of going grey during this lockdown, but it takes ages to grow out and the piebald look is not for me. If only one could go from black to grey in an instant.

You have lovely silver hair in those photos! Mine is proper dishwater salt and pepper at the top and dark brown underneath so looks a right mess. I was contemplating continue to grow it out due to pure laziness but asked my boyfriend what he thought and he said do what you like but it does make you look pretty old. I trust his opinion on these things so I'm back in the hairdressers when they reopen. I can't be bothered going every month though so I just deal with having grey roots with dark brown hair every other month.

I did try blond highlights but then one of my friends told me I looked exactly like my mother so that was the end of that experiment.

I'm growing in my grey at the moment. I think you do have to wear more/change your make up to prevent fading away! But i like make up anyway and find that less tedious than dying my hair, and it never looked quite right. It always ended up brassy looking or too dark, as I am a natural mouse.

I will colour my hair til my dying day. I do it for myself, it makes me feel better. So surely that’s a feminist choice?
