Bobble hat for a small head and short hair ?

Midlifemission · 03/01/2021 21:35

How come everyone else seems to look good in a bobble hat but me ?
I think it’s the small head and short hair making me look like maybe at best a small boy from the neck up ?
Does anyone else have this problem and found a hat that works ?

I hated myself in a hat with short hair. I feel much better now it's longer. Beanie might be better?

Iliketeaagain · 03/01/2021 21:53

I look silly in any hat, short hair, fat face but I am just beyond caring now so I wear the bobble hat I like the most when I'm cold.

Beanies don't work for me either - they hide my hair too 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did try an ear warmer that looks like a head band, but I looked even more ridiculous in that as my hair just pinged out the top and stuck up, so bobble hat it is.

glas14368 · 03/01/2021 22:32

I have a small head too. Can't find a hat unless I look in the kids section

Have to wear glasses from the "teen" section. 😄

Would love stylish hat but think I just look silly

Midlifemission · 03/01/2021 22:59

Hmm I am not imagining it then! Sorry to hear it's not just me.
@Iliketeaagain I think this is the right way to go - it's not like I can see myself anyway once I am out in the cold !!
I just feel a bit silly as I know I look ridiculous.

I love hats - I don't look ridiculous at a wedding in one I am sure - maybe I just need to hope for a wedding invitation...

I got an adult one online from a company called Love Your Melon. It is pretty tight and fits me well (short hair, 23in head). I also have a beanie from Barts and a couple of woolly headbands. The trick if you have short hair is not to pull the hat on top but hang it off your head from the back. No hat hair and you can leave a few strands at the front.

Midlifemission · 03/01/2021 23:00

Not talking about a bobble hat for a wedding by the way!

Ooh @ChrissyPlummer an optimistic reply I will investigate.
Thanks

Something more like this

www.google.com/search?q=knitted+hat+with+brim&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjXk6W5jYHuAhUfSBUIHQTFCjQQ_AUoAnoECBoQBA&biw=1354&bih=600#imgrc=4ObNFWLT0nmcWM

instead of a bobble hat?

I have a small head too. a hat going to a point would just make me christmas tree chaped

ILovesPeanuts · 04/01/2021 01:22

I really like these hats: www.bigbobblehats.co.uk/collections/bobble-hats
Not the gold shimmer one though - that's thinner material and makes me look like a pin head. The others are really thick and are the only bobble hats I've found that I look ok in.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/01/2021 01:25

All adults look ridiculous in bobble hats, it's not just you.

Thighdentitycrisis · 04/01/2021 06:34

Agreed @Iminaglasscaseofemotion
I have a large head and also look a loon in a bobble hat

Quinque · 04/01/2021 07:29

How about a knitted beret? You can pull it over your ears leaving hair showing at the front, but they've got a bit more shape to them so don't make you look as pin headed as bobble hats. They don't cause hat hair either.

Midlifemission · 04/01/2021 23:36

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion this made me laugh. If I thought everyone looked silly maybe I would go for it .

Thanks for all the ideas @Quinque , @midlifecrash , @ILovesPeanuts !
Trying to decide whether it's worth a punt or Iminaglasscaseofemotion has it right and I will look an idiot regardless ! It is very cold though.

I didn't go for it as thought I'd exhausted all options - my husband got given one and after trying it on I bought 2

Minky37 · 05/01/2021 20:11

I bough ear muffs when I used to commute by train, would they work? They stopped my hair from being messed up and kept my ears warm.

Midlifemission · 06/01/2021 23:41

I have ordered two hats based on your suggestions !

I will report back .

I have one of the Big bobble hats thanks @ILovesPeanuts and the other one is a Sort of baker boy style like @midlifecrash suggested.

We will see - they will be rapidly passed on to my DD or DM if no good but I will see how I get on.

OP posts:
ILovesPeanuts · 07/01/2021 00:15

Hope they look good! Baker Boy hats work for me as well.

Midlifemission · 10/01/2021 16:40

Well I am now the proud owner of two hats thanks to all the PPs!
@ILovesPeanuts I love the big Bobble hat so much !
If I am honest i can’t be sure I look any less ridiculous but I like it too much to care!
DH says it looks a bit Marge Simpson as it’s quite high but again I don’t care.
I like the baker boy style too and have worn them both already.
We went for a walk earlier and I felt like me head was in a duvet - so cosy !
Thanks all

Oh yay! So pleased! I have 2 of the big bobbles and love them. DH and the DC each have them too. A few people got them for Christmas one year from us as well. They do offset a small head Grin
