FFS I need a moisturiser for spotty yet ageing skin

Please help! I need a night cream that won't break me out/clog my pores but WILL help my poor ageing face. Late 30s. My skin is kind of dry and dehydrated on my cheeks, shiny on my nose and spotty on my chin. Yes it's delightful. Please help. I recently tried Dr Jart ceramidin cream but clogged up my face no end. TIA

Sorry no advice, but following. I am in the same boat, dry skin, crows feet, spotty chin and larger pores in nose area. I used effaclar by roche posay, great for spots but found it too drying.

Groovinpeanut · 03/01/2021 17:32

I've had similar problems with moisturisers over the years. My skin is very much like yours.
I found the Simple Hydrating Night Moisturiser to be fantastic... It's light, isn't greasy and is inexpensive. The day cream is great too.

TableNiner · 03/01/2021 17:35

Cerave PM

Fattoushka · 03/01/2021 17:35

Marking place, same type of skin!
Was looking at some serums from the inkey list the other day and wondered if they’d be any good

lookdeepintotheparka · 03/01/2021 17:41

I changed my skincare completely this year after watching Caroline Hirons (I know she's a bit marmite on here!) I now do my skincare in layers rather than using a heavy night cream and it's transformed my previously spotty, combination skin!

I use a serum after cleansing and toning then Murad Water Gel which is light but moisturising. It is £££ but I think layering skincare seems to work!

Rosehip oil - Pai, Sukin, Trilogy.

AuldFox · 03/01/2021 17:43

Settles in for the advice....

Cerave PM
Was going to say the same!! It's amazing stuff 😍
MorningTeas · 03/01/2021 18:05

Rosehip oil it's brilliant

TwilightSkies · 03/01/2021 18:07

Do you know what’s causing the spots on your chin?

Frequentflier · 03/01/2021 18:11

Neutrogena oil free. The non-comodegenic one. Works for my similar skin

doadeer · 03/01/2021 18:20

I would look at the whole of your routine not just moisturiser, could a product be causing your spots? Do you wear a morning cream to protect against cold, could that be causing dryness?

Do you wear make up? How do you remove it?

Do you exfoliate?

Sooo many questions haha

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2021 18:21

I’d ask the dr for help with the spots first.

foodtoorder · 03/01/2021 18:26

Try either boots ingredients serum with salycilic acid or the originals version if not on a budget. Has really helped my ageing spot prone skin.

ratatouillepudding · 03/01/2021 18:28

Oh so many useful posts already thank you!!

The spots are 100% hormonal. I recently tried going back on the pill as that helped in my 20s but I just didn't feel right on it this time. Spots went away during pregnancies but now back 🙄 if anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them.

I use a retinol every other night alternated with a vitamin c. I use ordinary buffet during the day. All of these help but I still feel dry and like I could do with some plumping overnight?!?

Twilightstarbright · 03/01/2021 18:29

I use a la Roche posay one for dry skin then Mario badescu spot treatment.

ratatouillepudding · 03/01/2021 18:32

I say completely hormonal but sometimes my pores seem to get blocked with something and then I pick them and it makes it really sore because my skin is very delicate I presume due to the retinol and vitamin c 😩 and it then looks a hundred times worse than if I left it

Ah I feel your pain, you have a similar problem to me. I was using all this expensive stuff and it was ok but then I started using a retinol serum which really dried my face so it resembled a bag of smashed crabs Blush thank god for teleworking... anyway due to a cash flow problem and desperation I started slapping the blue nivea on it a couple of weeks ago thinking the spots would be back but at least the wrinkles and flakey pastry effect might diminish. Well it is thick and gloopy and smells like old ladies but I actually have got rid of the dry patches, redness and the deeper lines (probably because it is a bit like poly filler) and no spots. Whoopie. I'm not sure how long it will last but it might be worth a try for a few days.

TwilightSkies · 03/01/2021 18:37

Is your diet good? Plenty of water, fruit and veg, minimal sugar etc

Skincare products can make skin worse. Def stop using anything that makes it too delicate.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2021 18:39

I’d still see the dr. Most acne is hormonal. That’s why pre-pubescent children don’t get it. I’ve got pcos, if I can wake up with clear skin everyday you can too.

I don’t think your meant to use retinol with vit c. I’d keep the retinol and use a different antioxidant in the day.

ratatouillepudding · 03/01/2021 18:57

What could the doctor prescribe do you think?

I def have too much sugar but otherwise not too bad.

Most guides I've read say it's ok to alternate retinol and vit c?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2021 19:05

It was too much for my skin so I stuck with retinol. My skin hates anything too exfoliating though, gritty scrubs make me break out. Mind you I have very oily skin and buffet breaks me out too.

Cutting out sugar is just common sense.

Drs start you on a topical treatment of ether benzoyl peroxide or tretonoin or antibiotics, if that doesn’t work they use oral antibiotics and in the unlikely event of that not working there’s always dermatology.

Fattoushka · 03/01/2021 19:11

I tried buffet last year and that caused me lots of breakouts so dropped that, same with the plain hyalauranic acid

doadeer · 03/01/2021 19:22

I would pair down Retinol and vit c and just focus on a good balm or milk cleanse, a serum and heavy moisturiser in evening and just Spf and moisturise in morning and give your skin a rest from any actives. You can go back to Retinol when you feel your skin is happier

Bromeliad · 03/01/2021 19:28

I've recently had success with a moisturiser with azelaic acid which I bought to treat my rosacea but has been amazing on my hormonal spots.

The one I'm using is from The Revolution but I guess that others are similar. Could be worth a shot.
