Heels: What's the alternative?

I ask on the back of the "instant ageing" thread.
So what do we wear instead?
And is there ever a place for heels?
I'm 57, and still haven't found my style: would like a few pointers.
Converse? Are they the answer?

Heels per se are not aging, it’s how you wear them, and what kind of heel. But I do love a high top too. And a knee high riding boot - a classic. I love a Mary Jane too. Today I’m wearing ankle boots with a chunky sole in pink - practical for the shitty snowing weather we have here - but also make me feel cheerful! (I’m in my fifties too)

Those pink boots are lovely.

There are a lot more stylish flat shoes around - nice enough for special occasions.

The ultra high heel, particularly with the thickish sole is out of date - I have thrown out a pair from 7/8 years agoBlush. Women tend to wear more slender heels, flat shoes or boots.

Purplecat Loving your boots - would look lovely with midi dresses and skirts.

I don't wear heels unless it's a wedding or a Big Fancy Night Out.

I stick to my Stan Smiths and don't care if they're in or not because they're comfy. I have DMs too, but only the Chelsea boot ones as I'm not a big fan of the traditional DMs with loads of laces.

And will always wear biker boots. May be buried in a pair of biker boots. They're definitely not smart but then neither am I. I just ordered a pair of Ugg Simmens in the sale. Biker boots with a sheepskin lining! So happy!

For regular nights out or times when I want to look a bit smarter, I have some smart black ankle boots from Carvela with a 2.5 inch chunky heel. Look nice with tights but still relaxed.

Everyday- trainers, Birkenstock’s
Nights out/special occasions- beaded flat sandals, long flat boots

Trainers and flat boots. I wore beaded sandals to a wedding. It was with a maxi dress so no one noticed until much later in the day and they were very jealous because l wasn't in agony.

I used to wear ballet flats but l think they are a bit dated now. I do like a wedge with a peep toe though. The occasional kitten heel sling back can also be stylish.

If you need height, consider wedge trainers but in a sparkly gold or black or silver!
