Tooth whitening kit from dentist - awful. What do you recommend?

I had trays made at the dentist and bought their expensive whitening syringes. I've now used two of them over months and it's barely worked at all. I've just looked up the brand online and it has really poor reviews! I used a different brand from a different dentist about 15 years ago and it worked great, I had completely white teeth. This stuff has maybe whitened by one grade with two fricking syringes.

The brand is Boutique Whitening.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand that works? I wish I could remember the other brand I used.

Pola or Phillips zoom are both good

Thanks! I'll have a look.

I use zoom and find it good

Pola worked really well for me.

I used Pola too from my dentist and they work great.

Phillips zoom

Boutique worked well for me. How much gel are you placing in each ‘tooth’? Is the guard a good fit? What % are you using?

MillyMollyMardy · 02/01/2021 18:58

How much gel have you used? The amount of peroxide that can be used to whiten teeth in the UK was reduced about a decade ago so now the process takes longer.
Normally applied for a minimum of two hours over about 10 sessions ideally close together so over a couple of weeks gives the best results.
Carbamide Peroxide is pretty stable but it will reduce in strength if stored for a long time.

Honestly, read the online reviews. They're awful. I've been using the amounts the dentist told me to, which is not much at all. It's barely whitened them a shade. In the last fortnight I've done at least ten sessions with the trays in for about 7 hours a go. The trays fit fine.

I've bought some of the Pola now so will see how that goes.

Thanks everyone :)

Is there an expiry date on the tubes?

WunWun · 02/01/2021 20:02

I'll have a look when I go upstairs, but it wasn't that long ago I bought them.

I was wondering how long your dental Practice has had them.

WunWun · 02/01/2021 20:58

Interestingly they expire this month! Which I presume means they're okay at the moment, but that's still a bit off really.

Not helpful but Boutique worked really well for me and years later I’m still happy with the results. Could it have been the strength of the gel? Maybe ask your dentist and see what they say about the gel being almost expired.

Fruitbowl33 · 01/03/2021 04:24

Oh no, I've just bought the boutique whitening kit. I've done 4 sessions over night 5+ hours. I keep waking up every morning expecting results. I hope it does work £300 for nothing will be so gutting
