Talk to me about jeans please

I am very much a jeans and tshirt/nice top type of person. However since having my DD 9 months ago, my body shape has completely changed and I look a bit like a weeble!
I'm 5'5, wide hips, newly acquired large belly and big chest. Any suggestions on jeans that would be suitable and make me look a little bit better? I'm happy to spend up to £50 on a nice pair.
TIA!

Hmm, no advice but watching with interest!

Unspeakably · 31/12/2020 08:29

I have a big belly, but am more top heavy. With big hips, would you say you're more pear shaped?

I have a very pear shaped friend, who also had a c section, so isn't totally flat bellied and she looks fantastic in mom jeans. She is also very hipstery, and manages to look very cool.

I tend to wear girlfriend jeans turned up with trainers or shoes in warmer weather, but in winter, j refuse to give up my skinnies, which I tuck into long boots. They are the best for keeping me warm and dry in crap weather, although I know they're supposed to be out of fashion!

There was a thread on here in the summer about buying vintage 501s. On the back of that I bought a pair from eBay... there are loads of sellers of graded (condition) jeans.
I have hips and a mum tum and am really enjoying wearing my 501s. They are 100% cotton and high waisted enough to hold my tum in but not so high waisted that the waist band sits above it and pushes it down and out (if you see what I mean). They fit the straight leg jeans trend nicely.

I think I spent around £35 on them with £40 being the average for the highest graded/least worn ones. And being “mens” they are sized by waste and length so you can buy the perfect pair. There other thread has all the info on sizing as you need to size up on the waist to take into account that they were shrink to fit when originally sold.

Herein lies my problem, I have never branched from my skinny jeans. So anything other than this is totally out of my comfort zone!

I will have a look at the 501s on ebay - brilliant idea, thanks @Procrastatron

@Unspeakably I would probably say I'm an apple at the moment, big boobs, big hips and prominent belly, previously a distinct hourglass, but my waist disappeared along with my dignity when I had DD. Ill look into mom jeans, I would probably say hipstery is my kind of style, vintage/50s elements.

I always go for the lift, slim and shape jeans from next. They do so many different colours and styles I.e skinny, slim, bootcut and they hold my tummy in a treat plus lift my bum up a bit Grin I think they're around the £48 mark. I have 3 pairs of them at the moment and when 1 wears out I replace them with the same (I live in my jeans)

Averyhungrycaterpillar · 31/12/2020 08:55

Ooh how do you find the fit in next @sittingonacornflake? Do I need to size up? Or are they pretty true to size?

I have the same shape post baby, I used to be more of a big bum shape, now it's all around my middle...complete with c section pouch! I like the Ivy skinny jeans and Lily slim jeans from Marks, depending on the outfit. Good tummy hold, decent amount of stretch and only £19.50.

Unspeakably · 31/12/2020 09:38

I'm a definite apple! Born that way #blessed Xmas Wink.

Maybe give GF jeans a go then. They work for me. But, if you're more of an hourglass naturally, but have gone more appley since pregnancy, then you might be a slightly different apple than I am, if that makes sense.

daisydalrymple · 31/12/2020 10:03

I also live in Next lift, slim and shape jeans. I have them in skinny and slim fit. They fit well, hold everything in and just feel good quality to wear.
If you like skinny fit, then their 360• fit jeans are amazing too.

SillyUnMurphy · 31/12/2020 10:07

I’ve also got a big c section pouch belly Sad I have found the Ivy skinny high waisted jeans from M&S are brilliant on me. An absolute bargain at £25

sittingonacornflake · 31/12/2020 10:24

@Averyhungrycaterpillar i find them small and always size up 1. If in between sizes I just go for the bigger size of the 2. When I'm a comfortable 12 the 14 seem to fit me perfectly!

Averyhungrycaterpillar · 31/12/2020 10:27

So, I've ordered some 501s from ebay, and I'm going to check out the next shape and lift and the m&s jeans. Will order a couple and see how they fit!

Oh look forward to hearing your feedback.

Hi all - jeans-related update.

Thanks for all your recommendations, the next lift and shape were delivered today and my goodness theyre amazing!! So comfy and pull me in at all the right places. I bought them a size larger as suggested and they are a nice size, possibly a little big but very comfy - I think I've been wearing jeans that are too tight for so many years that I wouldn't know jeans that fit if they came up and poked me in the eye!

Thanks again for all your recommendations - mom jeans are arriving tomorrow so I'll see how they look!
