Any Chanel perfume fans?

I love them! Now hesitating between treating myself to Eau Première (which I have smelled) and Gabrielle Essence (I used to have the standard Gabrielle but found the staying power was weak - anyone have any thoughts on Essence?).

I love most Chanel perfumes. Even no. 5 which always seemed too heavy is actually really nice in EDT.

Love no. 19 and 19 Poudré, Coco Mademoiselle is lovely (it's my sister's perfume though so I always feel wrong wearing it!).

Love Coromandel but cant justify the price.

My all time favourite is Allure Sensuelle.

Chanel has had flack in recent years for turning out perfumes that are too "bland" (apparently linked to Asian market) but I think they do a good job of staying away from sickly sweet floral bombs.

My only criticism is a real lack of staying power.

I love Chanel perfumes - probably No5 has the most memories for me as my Mum loved it . I tend to wear the EDP (apart from Chanel , Knowing by Ester Launder is a favourite too).

I have tried No 19 but it doesn't smell that great on me - interestingly my current next door neighbour has a hatred of No 5 and didn't believe I was wearing it - he said I was the only person he had ever met who it smelt nice on - obviously that isn't true at all but perhaps it smells very different on me somehow?

I do love Coco & Coco Mademoiselle too.

I have tried Gabrielle &Venise but don't love them- the scent doesn't last long on me.

My = favourite with No 5 is Gardenia - my DH bought it for me unrequested as a gift and I love it . For those posters saying you can only buy it in boutiques you used to be able in recent years to buy it strangely enough in House of Fraser but then Chanel left HofF. If I need any I buy it online and get the complimentary gorgeous wrapping and free samples .

Coco is my all time love. I adore it and sniff myself all day Blush

Geordieoldgirl · 31/12/2020 01:52

I love No 5 but Coco (original) is my all-time favorite. Wore it on my Wedding Day.

ellequick · 31/12/2020 06:29

I’ve only ever tried dupes of the Exclusifs range - can anyone recommend where I can buy genuine decants? I always worry that eBay ones are fake!

SpiderGwen · 31/12/2020 06:38

Love No.5

I used to wear it all the time. My mum wore it occasionally and since she died I have avoided wearing it when around my dad as he finds it too upsetting. He misses her very much.

Shangrilalala · 31/12/2020 06:59

Oh SpiderGwen, that must be hard for you all. Scent is so evocative of time, place and people.

I follow a long line of no 5 devotees. My grandma and lovely ma adored it. I gave DD a bottle when she went off to uni, should she ever be in need of a hug from me.

Recently I made an impulse purchase of Beige as an alternative but DH complains it gives him a headache.

madcatladyforever · 31/12/2020 07:11

Chanel number 5 fan here. I can't justify it at the moment as I'm saving up for building work so I've been buying very good copies from China to get me by.

DailyCandy · 31/12/2020 07:57

I've had 1932 for a few years and recently started wearing again. Love it.

Bois Des Iles for evenings out.

No 19 for all spring and summer long.

DailyCandy · 31/12/2020 07:58

And Gardenia. But I don't wear it really...

TheSilentStars · 31/12/2020 08:03
@YippieKayakOtherBuckets and others on here...

I love No 5, and No 19 but no way can I afford even the soap these days.
Where can I get a half decent dupe of either of them, please?
I have about 100 PP dupes of various perfumes (and some are better than the originals!) But having tried some of the Chanel dupes, along with the old Guerlains, they are the only ones that haven't convinced me. The best of the ones I've tried is Sycomore. (Though it was years ago when I tried them- a good 7-8 years ago so they may have perfected their potion!)

I finished my big bottle of Cristalle and wanted something different. I ended up going for the original Coco but was tempted by Diorella by Christian Dior.

I do love Coco. It definitely lasts longer than Gabrielle, which I also have. Some good suggestions here ladies for when my next birthday rolls around!

You need to look at the feedback and provenance really. If it's one person selling one type- and they have a picture of the original bottle and good feedback it's probably worth a punt- though you'll never know for sure of course. If it's coming from Hong Kong (lots are) I tend to think it's a dupe.

A few years ago I got some Chanel and Guerlain decants from an Etsy seller in Scotland and mine were great, I told the perfumista thread on here (I think possibly some are on this thread?) And some of them never even received their decants.

I'll find the seller I got my most recent one from- Paris-Deauville.

There are also some reputable decanters around- Gerald decants in Germany used to be excellent but I haven't looked at him for ages so don't know if he's still around.

eBay also have a block on some of the big names even for half bottles etc of genuine stock, so sellers have to hide in plain sight. I collect (among other things) vintage Dior perfumes and always have to tell the seller to change the name of the item or a block comes up.

Bluesheep8 · 31/12/2020 08:31

I'm really tempted by Coco Mademoiselle as its always being described as having a good whack of patchouli in it. Would those who wear/love it describe it as being strongly patchouli scented?

Unspeakably · 31/12/2020 08:34

I love Allure, Coco and Coco Mademoiselle, although the latter is a bit sweet. I have Coco at the moment and I adore it. Shame it's so pricey! I might get Allure next.

I actually don't find it fades on me. I can usually still smell it on clothes etc the next day and I swear I don't slather it on!

Maireas · 31/12/2020 09:08

I'm wearing Coco Mademoiselle at the moment, it's a beautiful scent, not overpowering at all. The patchouli adds a warm note.

NeedWineNow · 31/12/2020 09:22

Allure is my go to. I've worn it ever since it came out and love it. I love No.5 on others but not on me. I haven't tried any of the newer ones. Funny, I buy myself everything else, but only rarely perfume - I usually get it for Christmas or birthdays.

BaronessBomburst · 31/12/2020 10:01

@Bluesheep8 I have Coco Mademoiselle and didn't even realise that it had patchouli in it! It was a gift but I find it a bit boring to be honest. I get top notes of citrus and it settles down to slightly floral warm vanilla. It's very safe and I wear it to work.
Coromandel definitely has patchouli in. It's rich, warm, heady and exotic.

I also love Andy Tauer. I desperately want a bottle of Sotte La Luna Tuberose.

Bluesheep8 · 31/12/2020 10:13

@BaronessBomburst

Thank you for that info, sounds as though it's not what I'm looking for then and you've just saved me a lot of money Grin

Hello you!
It's me from A$$ End, but smelling beautiful Grin hope you are well!

Woodlandbelle · 31/12/2020 11:54

I have Gabrielle and love it but it doesn't feel strong enough for me. I love Coco Noir but I need to save up for it and treat myself. I love it. But it's super strong so may not be for everyone.

Thank you, you’re very kind.

I have enough No.5 to last me a lifetime as Mum bought me some each time she came back from one of her many trips (she and Dad went on lots of long haul holidays). And when she died I inherited her unopened 100ml bottle.

I suggested Dad keep the small bottle of parfum for when the scent of her would bring comfort rather than be painful. But we’re not there yet.

Labobo · 31/12/2020 16:40

@dudsville - Coco - the original - is my favourite perfume but when i met DH 27 years ago he politely told me his mum wears it and so it reminded him of her. Never worn it since but love it on other people.

dudsville · 01/01/2021 04:32

That's unlucky Labodo! My partner's mother wore something from a line at Boots so I just get to be me!

BaronessBomburst · 01/01/2021 11:36

Hello @TheSilentStars I though you might turn up here. Grin
I wouldn't have spotted you from this name change though.....
