Any Chanel perfume fans?

I love them! Now hesitating between treating myself to Eau Première (which I have smelled) and Gabrielle Essence (I used to have the standard Gabrielle but found the staying power was weak - anyone have any thoughts on Essence?).

I love most Chanel perfumes. Even no. 5 which always seemed too heavy is actually really nice in EDT.

Love no. 19 and 19 Poudré, Coco Mademoiselle is lovely (it's my sister's perfume though so I always feel wrong wearing it!).

Love Coromandel but cant justify the price.

My all time favourite is Allure Sensuelle.

Chanel has had flack in recent years for turning out perfumes that are too "bland" (apparently linked to Asian market) but I think they do a good job of staying away from sickly sweet floral bombs.

My only criticism is a real lack of staying power.

Like most houses they tried to "rebrand" with the Chance range (aiming at a younger market than their usual demographic) and Gabrielle. (DD is 17 and has all of them for example)
There aren't many I don't like, 19 is one of my signatures and I have fond memories of Allure.
I buy decants from eBay and Etsy of the Exclusifs- can't justify the price either and have so many perfumes I rarely finish a bottle.
Have you tried the Eaux? My latest love is Paris-Deauville. (I've got a 10ml from Etsy)

It seems like you're raising a Chanel fan there 😂 Funny how we follow in our mother's footsteps, mine has always been a Chanel fan which must be why both me and my sister have stuck with it. Mine has something of a mini Chanel collection which is why I've been able to try a few of the exclusifs, and also the Deauville eau: I agree, its wonderful, so fresh.

No. 19 is just stunning, so gentle but unique. It always reminds me of a rose garden in the rain. What did you think of the Poudré? To me it was an interesting take, it took 19 and gave it a little more energy.

I really like the "fizz" of lots of Chanel perfumes like the Eau Première and also Cristalle which always reminds me of those Vitamin C tablets you drop in water!

I also really like Boy.

I love 19 too - it's just beautiful, and I always feel like me when I wear it. The powdery softness of it is just perfect

Oh yes, Boy is lovely, and Cristalle was my Xmas present from dp last year!
There's only been one that I thought euuuuuw and that was 22. Too much going on.
DD is definitely a mini perfumista. One thing we've missed this year is wandering through Duty Free and me showing her things I think she might like.
I always wear 19 for important meetings. It makes me feel grown up and sophisticated.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 30/12/2020 08:40

Me! I have Cuir de Russie and Coco EDPs. I wear the lightest amount of Cuir de Russie before big meetings - it makes me feel like a competent Grown Up!

TheBigMelt · 30/12/2020 08:40

I think I’ve had love affairs with most of the Chanel classics over the years - No.5, No.19, Coco etc.

Currently I have quite a few Chanel perfumes that I wear frequently. Chance Eau Fraiche and Chance Eau Vive are nice fresh everyday fragrances. I love the intense version of Coco Mademoiselle.

Gabrielle Essence is lovely if you’re thinking of going for it - richer and more ‘Chanel of old’ than Gabrielle.

I love some of the Exclusifs line, too, but also can’t stretch to full bottles any time soon. I always try to have a sample or decant of Misia, Gardenia, Beige and Coromandel on the go, though, to satisfy my cravings Grin.

MooMinCow · 30/12/2020 08:58

Me, me, me! LOVE Chanel perfumes! Like you say, they are unique and I feel like they are scents that you grow and mature into. I find they have excellent staying power and rarely need to re apply.

I have Coco, Coco Noir, No5, No 5 L’Eau, Allure and a treasured bottle of Coromandel (which is simply beautiful if you like oriental or incense like scents).

I’m not so keen on Coco Mademoiselle, Chance or Gabrielle fragrances as I feel they lack the complexity of the others and agree they’re probably aimed at the younger market (that said, the green Chance is a lovely fresh spring fragrance).

I want to love No.19 but it doesn’t seem to suit me, but once I have some Boots points saved I may treat myself to the Poudre version as I love the iris aspect (seems to soften it a bit?)

violetbunny · 30/12/2020 09:27

I like Gabrielle, Coco Madamoiselle and the variations of the Chance range. I got the Chance Eau Fraiche version for Xmas (lovely one for summer which it is here), and I also have the Chance fragrance crayons (last thing I bought in airport diy free before COVID).

My all time favourite however is the Gardenia perfume which is only available in the boutiques. It's divine although I haven't yet splashed out on it as it's very expensive.

Ostryga · 30/12/2020 09:30

I’m a big fan of their Les Exclusifs range, especially Boy and Sycomore. Sycomore is my all time favourite perfume.

Enko · 30/12/2020 09:32

Wear coco mademoiselle as my daily perfume I do like no 19 and no 5 but don't wear myself.

formerbabe · 30/12/2020 09:36

Allure is my favourite perfume of all time...haven't worn it for ages sadly. So expensive I feel I can't justify it and I'm only doing the school run/trips to the supermarket right now so would be totally wasted. I actually found it lasted all day though which I loved

CountryLady1 · 30/12/2020 09:36

Hello

Allure fan here

Wore it on my wedding day and DH buys me a bottle every year I love it.

I feel its a very classy grown up scent. I migrated to Allure from CHANCE as felt chance was a bit too young however my 70yo mil does wear this daily so personal preference!

StormBaby · 30/12/2020 09:37

Ive always worn No5 because my stepmum wore it and she used to hug me as a child and I loved the way it lingered.

VienneseWhirligig · 30/12/2020 09:40

Me - DH always used to buy me Coco Mademoiselle every year for Christmas, and my nan buys me the bar soap for everyday use. I love Gabrielle, it isn't too bad at lasting on my skin but it does get softer. I don't like No 5 though. DH bought it me once and it gave me a headache.

I found it quite sad having to buy my own perfume now, having never had to before Sad

llm24 · 30/12/2020 09:44

Love Chanel perfume , my favourite is Allure

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/12/2020 10:18

I am very fond of 19 which I used to wear a lot. I still wear coco in the winter and love Beige which I wear all year round.

Quite tempted to buy some no 19 now.

Maireas · 30/12/2020 10:24

Chanel perfumes are the only ones that I wear! I've tried other brands, but they don't seem to suit me, they smell acrid, or as someone has just said, a flower bomb! I vary them a bit, currently wearing Gabrielle, though sometimes Coco Mademoiselle. I also like Allure and Cristalle. Chanel is my daily perfume, even if I'm only going for a walk or to the supermarket!
The only one I haven't tried is no.5 - anyone really like that one?

GoldfishParade · 30/12/2020 11:18

@TheBigMelt
Is the Essence faithful to the original? Because I love the original, I just want a more intense version but basically the same fragrance.

No5 is the ONLY exception I make to a frugal (miserly) existence!

I love how the tiniest spritz is all that's needed.
Right now in Winter it smells fresh but comforting and in the Summer, it's romantic and luxurious.

I worked in perfume retail for a few years and couldn't convert to any of the then-newer ones. Allure is "foggy" (?) and Crystalle was acidic to me.

My teenagers think it's weird that I love to wear head-to-toe charity shop with an air of No 5.
Have just realised I sound 85yrs old!

Maireas · 30/12/2020 11:29

@formerbabe - wear it on the school run or to the supermarket! It'll give you a boost!

MiddleClassMother · 30/12/2020 11:38

I wear number 5 daily and even spray it in my car from time to time as an air freshener, Chanel is probably my favourite perfume brand.

It's fine to sound 85 when talking perfumery Grin I like to think of them as Grande Dame classics. Another I have a spray of sometimes for meetings is 31 Rue Cambon. I've never tried Misia or Gardenia but will have a look out for a decant. The fella at Stansted almost knew me as the woman who always wanted a dobble of Coromandel but never bought itGrin
LastChanceBalloon · 30/12/2020 12:00

OP, Gabrielle Essence is less citrusy and more floral than the original. Sweeter, stronger and has more depth. It is definitely related, but like the glamorous older sister.

If you want to retain that freshness and youthful casual vibe of Gabrielle, it’s not for you, but if you want a warmer, more sophisticated version it’s a winner.

isthismylifenow · 30/12/2020 12:08

I'm a Chanel fan too. Allure is my go to, then next is Gabrielle. I have all 3 Chance but eau fraiche is my favorite but that has about 3 squirts left so I'm saving it. I have no 5 which I wear if going out on an evening (so not worn it much this year) and coco mademoiselle is my other every now and then one.

I'm not in the UK, but I don't recognize some that have been mentioned, but then again I havent been into a store to do any trial runs of new ones.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 30/12/2020 13:26

@TheSilentStars I love you!
