Any Chanel perfume fans?

I love them! Now hesitating between treating myself to Eau Première (which I have smelled) and Gabrielle Essence (I used to have the standard Gabrielle but found the staying power was weak - anyone have any thoughts on Essence?).

I love most Chanel perfumes. Even no. 5 which always seemed too heavy is actually really nice in EDT.

Love no. 19 and 19 Poudré, Coco Mademoiselle is lovely (it's my sister's perfume though so I always feel wrong wearing it!).

Love Coromandel but cant justify the price.

My all time favourite is Allure Sensuelle.

Chanel has had flack in recent years for turning out perfumes that are too "bland" (apparently linked to Asian market) but I think they do a good job of staying away from sickly sweet floral bombs.

My only criticism is a real lack of staying power.

DH bought me some No5 last Christmas. I always thought of it as an old ladies' perfume but he thinks it's really sexy. When I wear it both my teen DS's say it smells fantastic so it's obviously come out the other side of being the pensioners' classic scent.

Spied · 30/12/2020 13:36

Allure is my fav Chanel perfume but I'm more of a Mugler girl and love Dior.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/12/2020 13:52

I really like the "fizz" of lots of Chanel perfumes like the Eau Première and also Cristalle which always reminds me of those Vitamin C tablets you drop in water!

What you’re describing are the aldehydes which are a signature of many Chanel scents. No 5 and No 19 are classic aldehydic Chanels. The No 5 eau de parfum is an 80s reformulation but the parfum is exquisite. I find the edt a bit thin.

If you like aldehydes then you would probably love no 22. It is pricey as it is one of the exclusifs but the Perfume Parlour dupe is very decent. It’s called Delicacy. PP also do an excellent dupe of Sycomore, called Morish for Women.

Big fan of Coco Mademoiselle here! I love the whole range and I use both the deodorant (which is the most effective I tried!) and the EDT every day.
I also like Chance very much.

StellaRockafella · 30/12/2020 15:55

I wear Gardenia during the day and Bois des ÃŽles if I go out in the evening. I've worn the former since I was 16, and the latter since I was 18. My mum wore them too, and what I loved was that back then, they was only available in Chanel boutiques, so it felt like an incredibly special purchase.

I don't wear any other perfume, and don't think I ever will!

Coffeepot72 · 30/12/2020 16:10

I love Chanel No 5 - my lovely mum always wore it at Christmas. So it reminds me of her and of Christmas! I also like Coco, but you have to use it sparingly.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 30/12/2020 18:49

I wear Bois Des Iles most days- I love it. I put it on at 8am and can still smell it now. I don’t think of it specifically as an evening perfume like @StellaRockafella

PronkWine · 30/12/2020 18:57

I have Coco Mademoiselle, I used to have r
various Chance ones when I was younger but I stick with this now. No.5 reminds me of my mother!

My mum always wore it when she went out in the evenings, ergo I do too. It's my way of remembering her and being close to her (she died 25 years ago).

Another Chanel fragrance I loved was Bois Noir, which my dad wore for a time. It was later reformulated and the result was Egoiste. It was not a patch on Bois Noir.

Lastly, Une Fleur de Chanel was a limited edition they made in the very late 90s/early 2000s. That was gorgeous. Was given it as a gift at a Chanel event I was invited too, but am not sure if it was every put into production to be sold.

I love this, @StellaRockafella, and I love the power that scent has over our memories. My grandmother died thirty years ago but my mother still finds it emotional to smell Mitsouko for similar reasons.

LadyEloise · 30/12/2020 19:17

Les Exclusifs Chanel Jersey is my "special events" perfume.
I spritz it on when I need a boost of inner confidence- it's my spray of armour if facing something difficult.
As it's so expensive it's occasional use only.

PimlicoJo · 30/12/2020 19:27

I love No 5 and it's the only perfume I've ever worn which men remark on. Occasionally I treat myself to the soap with my Boots points and it's lovely.

I also love Coco (in winter) and no 19, especially in summer.

Currently wearing Gabrielle as I was given a sample and it's nice but after a couple of hours it's disappeared.

Katyjayne72 · 30/12/2020 19:59

I adore Chanel fragrances, especially Gabrielle and No. 19 in the springtime. Today I’m wearing Coco Mademoiselle which is perfect for cold winter days.

Beachlovingirl · 30/12/2020 20:31

I used to wear coco mademoiselle..... until all my family and friends started wearing it!

Now I wear joy by Dior and also chance eau tendre which I love but no staying power at all. I haven’t tried 19 or allure so maybe I should! Smile

Maireas · 30/12/2020 20:46

So true about scents holding memories.
They're so evocative, aren't they?
Also a lovely way of remembering our loved ones Daffodil

2021optimist · 30/12/2020 20:58

I LOVE 19, it's the only perfume I wear these days.
I like the smell of 5 on other people but it really doesn't work on me!

ForSaleChesterDraws · 30/12/2020 23:24

This is beautiful @StellaRockafella 💔

I have a bottle of my late mum's perfume in a cupboard, it's nearly thirty years old! ..I never wear it but I smell it occasionally and it always reminds me of her getting ready for a night out
dudsville · 30/12/2020 23:49

I was given a bottle of No 5 when I was in my early 20s. I'd never tried expensive perfume before and it knocked my socks off. After that bottle ran out I tried a few different perfumes, different brands, but they were so expensive that I felt I couldn't make too many mistakes. By my mid 20s I found Coco and I haven't looked back. I only do a squirt or two a day as I find it really strong on me. I spray it on my chest and find that warmth revives the scent throughout the day and wafts it up to me, and there's a special pleasure at the end of the day if I take a bath because it revives it again. A bottle easily lasts a year, my oh was surprised to notice that I kept wearing it during home working, but I truly do it for my own pleasure. I understand it's not a trendy perfume but I can't imagine wearing anything else now.

52andblue · 30/12/2020 23:54

@YippieKayakOtherBuckets and others on here...

I love No 5, and No 19 but no way can I afford even the soap these days.
Where can I get a half decent dupe of either of them, please?

BaronessBomburst · 31/12/2020 00:01

I love Coco and Coromandel. Éclat do a pretty good Coromandel dupe. It's number 239 VIP. They're based in Germany but post to the UK. It's not quite as long lasting and the top notes are more citrus but it's very close otherwise.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 31/12/2020 00:02

The Perfume Parlour dupes are generally very decent. This is a bit cloak-and-dagger but they must have been threatened with legal action as they will deny all knowledge of dupes if you ask them. I have a list saved on my phone from an old S&B perfume thread.

For No 19, look at Perfect for Women 0133.
For No 5, Spike for Women 0132

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 31/12/2020 00:03

Sorry, that was for @52andblue.

52andblue · 31/12/2020 00:09

oh, THANK YOU @YippieKayakOtherBuckets

I have a Birthday coming up and wanted to treat myself and that might be more my level price wise. Much appreciated! x
