Really annoyed that Olaplex 7 contains silicone!

I asked for some Olaplex for Christmas and my husband bought me 0 and 7 which is perfect. Except 7 contains silicone! I didn't even think to check.

So upsetting! I'll have to use it for special occasions only

Whats wrong with silicone? I truly am mystified.

volcan0 · 29/12/2020 11:08

It chokes the hair, builds-up and needs sls to remove which are bad for your hair.

I thought that 0 doesn't do anything on it's own, that you have to use it with 3. Am I mistaken? I have 3 and was planning on buying 0 to use with it.

You wouldn't expect an oil to contain silicone. That is surprising.

Yes I already had a 3, so I have used the 0 with the 3 but don't really want to use the 7 now

Thank you @volcan0. I can’t use SLS so youve given me a good tip to watch out for silicone now too.

MoltonSilver · 29/12/2020 11:31

Perhaps you can return it assuming it's unopened.

I opened it! Then felt the silicone so only then did I check the ingredients. Never mind

That’s too bad :(
I hate when that happens. Usually it will be when a brand I regularly use changes their ingredients and I’ll open it and then be WTF? And see ingredients have changed. So frustrating.

volcan0 · 29/12/2020 11:48

It'll be ok for infrequent use. Feel bad for husband because he did so well!'

Most finishing hair oils contain silicone to smooth hair and get rid of frizzing so to be expected really? I got some too with the the number 6 styling cream and I really like a drop or two lightly smoothed through the ends. If used occasionally I don’t think that small amount will overly coat the hair too much.

I assumed Olaplex would have better ingredients

0 and 3 contain most of the active bonding and repairing ingredient so if that’s what you’re after then you’re better concentrating on those two products (which you have to use together). All the others (shampoo, conditioner and styling products) have lower concentration of it so more of an ‘add on’ rather than actual treatment in my opinion.

video explains it well

I know, thanks. It's just my husband bought me something nice that I can't use

I was 2/3rds of the way down a bottle when I discovered that too. Hasn’t stopped me using a bit twice a week and my hair is still vibrant (I avoid silicones as a rule).

That's good. I can tell my hair is sensitive to silicones unfortunately. Makes it feel dry and lank
