Premium Shampoo & Conditioner

I'm planning to treat myself to some high end shampoo & conditioner with some Xmas money I've got. I've never bought it before as I've never seen the point but since having olaplex at the salon, I've reconsidered and want to give it a try. If it is worth it then I plan to keep on using it.

I'm looking at keratase, redken and olaplex at the moment but does anyone have any words of wisdom or experience where one is just not worth the money? I really want to choose the right one so I love it!

Redken is great. I haven't tried the others so can't comment on those

BoJingle · 28/12/2020 20:56

@Buzzer3555 Yes redken looks very good. Olaplex I think is too expensive so whilst I really want to try, I think it won't be sustainable. Do you find a noticeable difference when using redken to the usual john freida type products?

I use Aveda shampoo and conditioner and their Damage Remedy instead of Olaplex. I really rate them.

julietmanchester · 28/12/2020 23:12

L'occitane is good, but if you're wanting to really splurge - Christophe Robin.

OrangeBlossom28 · 28/12/2020 23:21

I've just started using Redken Extreme shampoo and am really liking how my hair feels.

Closetbeanmuncher · 28/12/2020 23:32

Dizziak (cult beauty) Every. Single. Time.

Closetbeanmuncher · 28/12/2020 23:34

Also don't have olaplex at the salon (unless in addition to coloring service and just buy the no. 3 pre-poo to use at home.

margaritasbythesea · 28/12/2020 23:36

I trued Redken and I wasn't impressed. My best ever was something called Humectress but I don't know where to buy it anymore. Aveda is also very good .

Buzzer3555 · 29/12/2020 12:09

Replying to Bojingle. Yes its much less "claggy" than most. Rinses away well. My son also uses it on his permed hair and its great there too.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 29/12/2020 12:10

Shu uemera. It’s by far and away the best. Choose the right one for your hair type and you won’t look back.

I’ve tried them all.

ByersRd · 29/12/2020 12:13

Kerastase for me. Expensive but I only use a small amount each wash. The salon were great in talking me through what would be the best range in the brand.

Branleuse · 29/12/2020 12:17

ive tried so many posh shampoos that are honestly not even as good as tresemmé moisture rich.

my hairdresser is one that ive been going to for years when she was in a certain salon, and now works from home, but said that every salon encourages its hairdressers to promote a certain brand of expensive shampoo, but none of them are really much different to each other

julietmanchester · 29/12/2020 19:33

I second Keratase too! Haven't used it since I discovered l'occitane but have enjoyed it in the past.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/12/2020 20:48

I always go back to aveda, it’s not tested on animals like most big brands but the parent company still tests.

katiejames2015 · 29/12/2020 20:53

Lanza protein plus shampoo is the only hair product I feel makes a difference and I can tell when I don’t use it

LionLily · 29/12/2020 20:56

Kerastase Ultime is very good
Do two shampoos with small amounts rather than one big shampoo, and dry your hair on medium heat and speed, don't blast it.
So swishyyyy!

MNBookNerd · 29/12/2020 22:22

Would recommend making sure whatever you choose is sulphate and silicone free. A surprising number of so-called high end brands are full of nasties that won't do your hair any good in the long run. Might be worth trying travel sizes if you can get them before shelling out on full size bottles - aveda's own website has a lot of their range in smaller sizes for instance. Can be especially useful if your not sure what would work best for your hair type.

udnertheradar · 29/12/2020 22:32

Kerastase

Strawberrylaceaddict · 29/12/2020 23:37

I really rate pureology, didn’t notice much of a difference with Olaplex and I find kerastase makes my hair feel greasy no matter what range I use.

TTCAbroad · 30/12/2020 03:06

I have just started using Olaplex (3, 4, 5 and 6) and my hair is looking on point. I'm not sure if the shampoo/conditioner are doing aalllll that much but I do really think that the pre-blow dry treatment is helping with frizz. Plus it smells nice.

bebarkered · 30/12/2020 03:38

TK Maxx always have premium shampoo and conditioners OP

YuletidePizza · 30/12/2020 12:09

I prefer Aveda to Kerastase, it works much better on my hair.

Mxflamingnoravera · 30/12/2020 12:24

I've just tried "new hair" today, I got the starter kit from my son fir Christmas. No conditioner, it's a thick gloop you brush through and massage in then rise off. It last my hair silky soft when wet and loads of volume when dry. I have really fine straight hair that normally needs washing daily, I'll report back on how it looks after sleeping in it. I saw the price- ouch, it's not cheap but it has no sulfates and no lathering ingredients (ie detergent). Should be made of gold for that price!

Thisisbananas3 · 30/12/2020 12:58

Philip Kingsley is my holy grail. I have very long fine straight hair.

I also love Pureology hydrate sheer, smells gorgeous and was so nice on my hair. They do a hydrate range but that was too heavy on my roots, I have greasy roots and dry/normal ends.

I personally didn’t get on with kerastase.

shallbe · 30/12/2020 14:05

I've used Function of Beauty, Keratase, Aveda and Olaplex this last year or 2 and can't say I've noticed a difference with any of them. I think I will keep Olaplex another punt though.
